In Columbus, Ohio, a pressing demand for action has emerged from the state’s leading nursing union following an alarming incident where a nurse was reportedly strangled by a patient at Ohio State University Hospital.
Rick Lucas, who leads the Ohio Nurses Association and previously chaired the OSU nursing union, addressed a letter to the leadership at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. The correspondence was prompted by an incident where a postpartum nurse suffered injuries on the job, during which, allegedly, she received no immediate support from either management or administration.
Marti Leitch, the chief spokesperson for Wexner Medical Center, acknowledged that there were lapses in the post-event notification process, which led to a delay in the provision of support services, extending to the following day.
Lucas detailed that the incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, when a postpartum nurse attempted to intervene in a confrontation involving a female patient and a male family member. The man was reportedly holding an infant, potentially putting the child at risk.
