CHICAGO An American Airlines jet struck the tail of a United Airlines plane at O’Hare International Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed an AA Flight 1979 struck the tail of United Flight 219 while taxiing on different taxiways around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday.
The American Airlines Boeing 737-800 was heading to Los Angeles and the United Boeing 787 was heading to Honolulu.
affiliate WGN reporter Sean Lewis was aboard the plane at the time of the incident and confirms there was visible damage to both aircrafts.
“It felt like we hit a pothole. Some people felt it, some didn’t. Nonetheless, a few minutes later, the pilot got on the PA and said that we had tail strike,” Lewis told WGN News.
Chicago Fire Department crews responded to the tarmac close to runway 28R.
No injuries have been reported. The FAA will investigate.
