Since 2016, the United States has witnessed an impressive ten lottery jackpots soaring above $1.1 billion.
WASHINGTON — On Christmas Eve, an Arkansas resident clinched the staggering $1.817 billion Powerball jackpot with a single ticket.
This marks only the second time in history that a Powerball jackpot has been claimed in Arkansas, with the first occurrence dating back to 2010.
Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, celebrated the win by saying, “Congratulations to the newest Powerball jackpot winner! This is a truly extraordinary, life-changing prize. We also extend our gratitude to all players who participated in this jackpot streak, as every ticket purchased contributes to supporting public programs and services nationwide.”
The jackpot grew over a period of three months, during which there were 47 consecutive drawings without a winner. The last time the Powerball jackpot was claimed was on September 6, when two tickets from Missouri and Texas shared a $1.787 billion prize.
The last time someone won a Powerball jackpot on Christmas Eve was in 2011. The lottery game also added that the sweepstakes has also been won on Christmas Day four times, most recently in 2013.
