“We tend to make this a tradition every year,” shared Rikki Ray, a Chicago resident. “With three kids, they absolutely love the hustle and bustle. Everything tends to be done at the last minute when you have three children.”

Meanwhile, The Shops at North Bridge on Michigan Avenue welcomed a steady flow of last-minute shoppers. Some visitors expressed surprise at the relatively sparse crowds.

“Things are going smoothly,” noted Chareice White, who traveled from Indiana. “I came here to buy a few more gifts. It’s somewhat quiet—not too crowded, but definitely peaceful.”

While some are getting their last-minute gifts, others are just happy to take in all that comes with Christmas in Chicago.

“When it’s 40 degrees in Chicago, we’re outside we’re down in the city the best city in the whole country,” Mark of Niles said.

Most of the shops on State Street close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
