The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in a red shirt, believed to be in his twenties, who remains at large.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Following a deadly hit-and-run incident, all southbound lanes on University Boulevard were shut down on Friday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. Two vehicles, a Nissan and a Dodge Challenger, were heading northbound near the 1900 block of University Blvd S. Witnesses reported that the Challenger was speeding at “well over 100 mph.”

Authorities revealed that the Challenger collided with the Nissan, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway. The Nissan crashed into a telephone pole and ignited, while the Challenger continued into the southbound lane, hitting a Toyota Camry near the intersection of Saint Cecilia Road.

Upon arrival, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue personnel confirmed the Nissan driver had died. The Camry’s occupants were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

JSO says that after the crash, the driver of the Challenger fled on foot and is described as being in his 20s and wearing a red shirt. JSO also states that the registered owner of the Challenger has not been charged, as their description does not match the suspect.

Road closures are expected to last for about another two hours, JSO says.

JSO asks that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information regarding this crash to contact JSO at 904-630-0500, Email JSOCrimeTIps@jaxsheriff.org or contact CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS where you may remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward.
