Hair growth treatments recall due to a lack of child-proof packaging

WASHINGTON — A nationwide recall has been issued for certain hair growth products due to their failure to meet child safety packaging standards, as announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday.

The recall concerns two specific hair growth serums that contain minoxidil, which were found to lack the necessary child-resistant packaging. This oversight significantly raises the risk of accidental poisoning, potentially causing severe injury or even death if young children come into contact with the product.

The products affected include approximately 16,900 units of RootStim Beard Growth Serum 5% Minoxidil and around 25,000 units of Ruahouine Hair Growth Serum. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised to immediately remove them from places accessible to children and store them securely out of sight and reach.

The Ruahouine Hair Growth Serum was available for purchase on Amazon between January 2025 and July 2025, retailing for about $10 per bottle. It is crucial for consumers to verify whether they possess these serums and take prompt action to prevent any accidental exposure.

The hair growth serums from Ruahouine were sold on Amazon from January 2025 to July 2025 for about $10 each.

The RootStim bottles were also sold on Amazon from November 2024 through September 2025 for $20 each.

The two serum bottles were manufactured in China. No injuries or illnesses have been reported in relation to this recall.

Consumers who have the RootStim can contact the company for instructions on receiving a replacement product. The companies have also urged customers to discard the original bottle.
