Products distributed across the United States have been impacted by a recent recall.

WASHINGTON — Medical Products Laboratories Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of over 41,000 bottles of Walgreens-branded saline nasal spray after detecting bacterial contamination. This recall specifically targets Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray with Xylitol, available in 1.5-ounce bottles.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has categorized this recall as Class II. This classification implies that while the use of the product could lead to temporary or medically reversible health issues, the likelihood of severe adverse effects remains low.

Tests have identified the presence of Pseudomonas lactis, a bacterium that may pose health risks, particularly to individuals with weakened immune systems or respiratory challenges.

The recalled products, distributed on a national scale, include two specific lot numbers: 71409, with an expiration date of February 28, 2027, and 71861, expiring on August 31, 2027. These details can be found on the product’s packaging.

The Philadelphia-based manufacturer initiated the recall Nov. 12 and has been notifying customers by letter. The recall remains ongoing.

Consumers who purchased the affected nasal spray should stop using it immediately and may return it to their place of purchase. Those with questions can contact Medical Products Laboratories Inc. at 9990 Global Road, Philadelphia, PA 19115.

The product carries the National Drug Code 0363-3114-01.
