The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has sounded a crucial alarm following a tragic event involving a young child. Reports have surfaced about a 17-month-old who lost their life after becoming ensnared in a particular type of children’s playset.
In an urgent advisory issued from Washington, the commission called for an immediate halt in the use of these children’s playsets. The concerning incident involving a toddler’s entrapment and subsequent death has prompted this safety alert.
Focus has been directed towards the WPX-4 Slide Playsets, manufactured by Wenzhou Yidian Amusement Equipment Co., Ltd. Notably, the commission withheld information on the venues where these playsets were available.
The highlighted safety risk associated with these playsets lies in their design. They contain several openings that might accommodate a child’s body but can trap a child’s head, posing a grave entrapment hazard.
Although the Consumer Product Safety Commission confirmed knowledge of one fatal incident involving a 17-month-old, further specifics surrounding the tragic event were not disclosed.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the plastic playsets are designed for indoor or outdoor use and include multiple activity components, such as a tunnel, slide and basketball hoop. Some of the playsets also have a vehicle-shaped component on the side. The playsets come in red, navy, coffee, gray, green and yellow.
“Wenzhou Yidian Amusement Equipment Co., Ltd., the manufacturer of the Model WPX-4 Slide Playset, has not agreed to an acceptable recall of these products,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in the news release.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging people to stop using the playsets immediately and to throw them away rather than sell or give them to someone else.
