(KTLA) – Los Angeles County officials urged the public on Monday to prepare as dangerous Santa Ana winds returned to Southern California, raising the risk of more explosive wildfires.

The National Weather Service is forecasting another Particularly Dangerous Situation red flag warning and extreme fire weather between noon Monday and 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Peak wind speeds could reach 50 to 70 mph along the coasts and valleys, with some mountain and foothill gusts topping between 60 and 100 mph.

The red flag warning was expected to remain in place until at least Thursday, according to the Weather Service.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department has ordered additional staffing and pre‑deployment of ground and aerial resources throughout the county, officials stated.

Residents were urged to sign up for emergency alerts and have an evacuation plan.

Residents living in wildfire-prone areas were asked to do the following:

  • Sign up for emergency alerts: alert.lacounty.gov
  • Report any sign of smoke or fire immediately by calling 9-1-1.
  • Check your evacuation zone status and make a plan to evacuate if ordered: protect.genasys.com
  • Pack essentials in a go bag, including medications and vital documents: ready.lacounty.gov/disaster-supply-kits/ 
  • Prepare for possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs: ready.lacounty.gov/power-outage/
