EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC4) — In Eagle Mountain, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a handful of pride flags were stolen.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office released doorbell camera footage showing what appears to be two teenagers ripping a pride flag down from the front porch. A third person is seen pulling a transgender flag out of the grass in the yard.

At the end of March, the sheriff’s office posted the following message on social media:

Over the past year, and again the past few nights, several Pride and Transgender flags have been stolen from the porch of a home in the 9000 N Ox Bridge area of Eagle Mountain. The suspects appear to be juveniles, in their early teens, and we have information they fled the area on a yellow electric bike and mountain bikes.”

“It’s pretty disheartening to not feel like you’re at home in your home,” Eagle Mountain resident Kiahna Hines told ABC4.com.

Hines is in a relationship with someone of the same sex. Together, they have a 2-year-old. They purchased their home about six months ago in Eagle Mountain. Recently, Hines says their pride flag was stolen twice, but she will keep buying more.

“As long as it gets taken, we’ll always put one back up. We always want to be a safe space for the community,” Hines said. “People taking things from us is not going to scare us away from being who we are and trying to be a positive influence around.”

ABC4.com has previously spoken to another Eagle Mountain family whose flags have also been stolen. Hailey Randall has put up LGBTQ+ pride flags at her Eagle Mountain home for years, but said the flags at her home have been stolen or vandalized on several occasions as well.

“Just please stop,” Randall previously told ABC4.com. “Even if you don’t like what they stand for, or agree with it … it’s something that’s important to us, and it’s not good to come onto people’s properties and take things. Just let it be.”

Randall said as the incidents have continued, it’s been “frustrating,” and that they keep replacing the flags to “have that representation out there that we believe that everybody should feel safe for whoever they are.”

The sheriff’s office has asked anyone with information about the thefts to call Central Dispatch at 801-798-5600. After posting the doorbell camera footage, the sheriff’s office said, “Remember if it’s not yours, don’t touch it.”
