Vance touts GOP tax bill in Georgia stop

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. () Vice President JD Vance was in Peachtree City, Georgia, Thursday to make the Republican Party’s case for the recently passed “big, beautiful bill.”

Vance’s stop aims to pitch working-class voters on the promised perks of the bill, including ending taxation on tipped wages.

The vice president pointed to his mother, Bev Vance, whom he said waited tables for a period of time.

The stop also comes as Republicans across the country are being met with hostile town halls from voters who claim the new tax law is a transfer of wealth from the poorest Americans to the wealthiest. Critics have also warned that cuts to Medicaid funding will result in hospital closures particularly in rural communities.

In March, House Speaker Mike Johnson encouraged Republican lawmakers to skip town halls that have been filled with protesters decrying the Trump administration’s slashing of the federal government.

The Republicans are finding themselves in an unusual spot defending the deep budget cuts they have campaigned on for years but have rarely been able to accomplish because the reductions cut into federal programs and services Americans in their districts rely on.
