A small plane transformed a Florida highway into an emergency runway Saturday when it struck the rear of a moving pickup truck during a dramatic landing captured on video.
The aircraft was carrying two pilots when a mechanical problem forced them to attempt an emergency landing near Bayshore Road and Interstate 75 in North Fort Myers around noon, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The plane left Sebring, Florida, at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday and landed about 50 minutes later, at 11:50 a.m., according to FlightAware tracking data.

Roadside video shows the plane’s wheels touching down on the pavement before its wing clipped the back of a pickup traveling in the same direction.
The truck was traveling eastbound when the aircraft struck it, according to the sheriff’s office. No injuries were reported.
Photos released by the sheriff’s office show the small aircraft stopped on the roadway after the incident.
“Thankfully, this incident had a positive outcome, and no one was injured,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement.

“We will continue working closely with our partners at the FAA as they review the circumstances surrounding this incident,” he said.
The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
The close call occurred less than a week after a Learjet crashed Sunday, Nov. 1, in Greenacres in Palm Beach County, killing all nine people aboard.
Federal investigators are working to determine the cause of that crash.
