Social media users baffled over man's strange way of cutting an avocado: 'This is genius'

A man has stunned the internet after sharing his simple yet brilliant method of slicing up the humble avocado in order to keep it from browning.

Mikey, from Cape Town, took to TikTok to share the way he has been cutting avocados for “as long as he can remember,” he told news.com.au.

While most people cut an avocado down the middle and pull it apart so that both sides expose the flesh and the pit, that is not how Mikey does it.

Instead, the top is removed to reduce the amount of exposed flesh and prevent browning. The knife is then dipped into the avocado to extract what is needed.

“And you just drop it right on a little plate [after you’re done],” he said.

The clip has been viewed more than 4.7 million times and has garnered more than 5000 comments.

Social media users were in a frenzy over the clip.

“As someone who doesn’t want the whole avocado on my toast, this is amazing,” one person commented.

Another added: “No one has EVER opened an avocado like that.”

One simply wrote: “That’s actually really smart.”

“This guy is using avocados like it’s truffle butter,” one added.

Someone else weighed in: “I actually think this is genius !!!! Not everyone eats avocado the same way … thanks for the tip!”

Others couldn’t fathom not eating an entire avocado in one go.

“Not eating a full avocado with your toast is crazy work,” one said.

Another added: “What’s leftover avocado?”

“1. There is never any leftover avocado in my household. 2. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN THOUGHT OF BEFORE?? 3. Exactly. Because hardly anyone ever has leftover avocado,” one social media user concluded.

Mikey told news.com.au that he was currently on holiday in New York while his wife is working in the city, with the pair staying with a friend.

“And, I was cutting some avo to put on some sourdough bread and her friend said, ‘oh my goodness, I’ve never seen someone cut an avo like that’,” he

“I explained to her [it was to stop it browning]. She said that was amazing and told me to do a little video, post it on TikTok and see what happens.

“And the rest is history.”

He said that the reactions to his clip have been hilarious.
