Did Meghan repost her trailer as a publicity stunt?

An expert in public relations has suggested that Meghan Markle’s actions of deleting and reposting behind-the-scenes content from her upcoming Netflix lifestyle show could have been a strategic move to generate more buzz before its release.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared the clip on her Instagram – before it was mysteriously taken down, and then re-shared.

This is not the first time such a situation has occurred, as fans of the royal family pointed out a similar incident last month with a trailer for another show, Love, Meghan, set to air soon.

Back then, followers suggested that the reason was to improve the image resolution (the level of detail in each frame) of the footage.

And speaking to FEMAIL, media connoisseur Chad Teixeira unveiled the potential implications of the mishap – be it accidental or not.

‘So even royals aren’t immune to making mistakes, and Meghan’s Instagram blunder is potentially a classic example of that,’ he explained.

The expert noted that Meghan is likely being cautious with her new show and personal brand, desiring everything to appear flawless. Thus, she may have removed the original post to replace it with a more polished version.

However, he added, ‘as much as deleting and reporting can be a small thing, it could also be an attention grabbing and savvy move’.

‘Deleting and reposting has certainly grabbed attention, and launching something new means you’d want as many eyeballs on it as possible,’ Chad continued.

‘She might simply have wanted to present the most professional version of the trailer, but cynically there could be an element of knowing her every move is watched and that even the simple act of deleting and reposting would grab attention.

‘Meghan is no stranger to all eyes on her, and her new brand is very much in the spotlight and could potentially determine how she and Harry are seen so there’s a lot of pressure to get it right.

First impressions matter here, especially on social media, where engagement and comments will be so important, and I think Meghan knows that and is using it to leverage herself and her lifestyle brand as much as she can.’

Elsewhere some commenters were more critical, branding the move blatantly ‘attention seeking’ and ‘sneaky’.

‘Why did she delete it so fast?’ one questioned. ‘This doesn’t make sense but nothing she does ever makes sense. There has to be a reason.’

Another hit out: ‘She wants us talking about her that is why she did it.’

A third sarcastically remarked: ‘The video is now miraculously back.’

Meghan’s new show is set to be released next Tuesday having been delayed from its initial premiere date of January 15 due to the California wildfires.

Yesterday’s 14-second clip featured a short cameo from her husband Prince Harry, and the couple’s beloved beagle Guy – whose death was announced by Meghan last month.

In the video, the Duchess can be seen showing off her dance moves and sharing lighthearted moments with crew members and some of the guests who will feature.

After it was deleted, the short clip was reposted on X before a seemingly identical version of the teaser was later reuploaded to her social media without explanation.

Meghan wrote: ‘Six more days until our show launches on @Netflix! Celebrating the crew and everyone who helped make this happen! The countdown begins.’

The new show will see the Duchess ‘reimagine the genre of lifestyle programming’ as she and her guests roll ‘up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same’, according to Netflix promotional material.

A previous trailer for the series in January showed Meghan inviting friends and guests to a California estate where she shares cooking, gardening and hosting tips.

Guests include Roy Choi, Mindy Kaling, Alice Waters, ‘with additional acclaimed chefs and special friends’ – and there will be eight episodes, each lasting 33 minutes.

A similar mishap happened last month, when Meghan unveiled the first trailer for With Love on social media.

But eagled-eyed royal fans claimed to have noticed that the Duchess’s big reveal wasn’t completely smooth-running.

Some online suggested that before Meghan apparently reposted her video, it ‘was obviously not formatted for Instagram stories and was therefore blurry’.

One spotted: ‘Another snafu in Meghan’s launch. This morning, Meghan originally uploaded her Netflix teaser trailer.

‘It was obviously not formatted for Instagram stories and was therefore blurry. Just 18 minutes ago, she deleted that post and has uploaded a full-frame version that has clear resolution.

‘Does Meghan not have a social media staffer? Even an intern who knows the ropes?,’ questioned the individual online.

Another said: ‘Yikes! Any gen z could have told her how to do that even as a gen X I’d expect someone of her status to know that by now.’

Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions helped to make the series and she also gets a credit as one of its executive producers.

The couple have a £80million five-year deal with Netflix which they signed in 2020 – and the Sussexes are executive producers of Polo which aired recently.

The documentary was the couple’s first since Heart Of Invictus, which aired some 16 months earlier and followed a group of service members on their road to the Invictus Games, the Paralympic-style sporting competition set up by Harry in 2014 for injured and sick military personnel and veterans.

It followed Live To Lead, about leaders who have dedicated themselves to social justice, in 2022, and before that, the couple’s controversial six-part Harry & Meghan documentary.

Meanwhile, trademark filings have revealed Meghan is planning to sell biscuit and pancake mixes under her newly rebranded lifestyle company ‘As Ever’.

The Duchess said on February 18 that her venture was being renamed from American Riviera Orchard because that name limited her to locally-produced goods.

‘With Love, Meghan’ begins streaming on Netflix from next Tuesday, March 4
