CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police are investigating a fatal mass shooting that erupted Saturday night on the city’s South Side.

The gunfire broke out around 11:37 p.m. in the 5400-block of Cottage Grove Avenue in Washington Park, according to police.
Authorities said officers had been called to the area to break up a crowd when a person opened fire.
A total of 14 people were struck by bullets, police said. Among them was a 35-year-old man who was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Rontonio M. Guterz.

A 34-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and is expected to be OK.
A 39-year-old man was shot in the right leg and arm; he is also expected to be OK.
A 40-year-old woman was shot in the right shoulder and a 45-year-old woman was shot in the left leg; both are expected to be OK.
A 26-year-old woman was shot in the chest and was taken to University of Chicago; police said she is expected to be OK.

A 42-year-old man was shot in the leg and is expected to be OK.
CPD said other victims included a 37-year-old woman, a 23-year-old man and a 35-year-old man; their condition was not known.
Police later found more victims aged four women aged 21, 23, 43 and 47.
The 47-year-old woman was taken to Northwestern Hospital in serious condtion.
The other three women were taken to the University of Chicago and are expected to be OK.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
