ST. JOHNS, Fla. (WFLA) — On November 23, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office apprehended three teens involved in the latest social media craze known as the “door kick challenge.”

This viral trend involves individuals sprinting to the front doors of homes, forcefully kicking them, and fleeing before the residents can respond.

A concerned resident on Sweetbrier Branch Lane contacted the sheriff’s office, suspecting an ongoing burglary after noticing someone trying to break down their door, according to the authorities.

The resident informed officers that her husband was armed, prepared to confront the potential intruders if they returned.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the trio of teenagers clad in dark attire and gloves, attempting to conceal themselves near the targeted residence.

According to SJSO, the teenagers went to multiple homes in the neighborhood, causing damage to the front door of one of the homes.

Deputies arrested the teenagers on suspicion of loitering and prowling. One teenager was charged with criminal mischief because of the damage to the front door, SJSO said.

“This ‘challenge’ is not a harmless prank,” the sheriff’s office said. “As you heard in the audio, the complainants were armed, waiting at the front door to shoot the possible intruder. Participating in this criminal act has serious and possibly life-changing consequences.”
