Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return to Oz in this first look at the magical sequel.

WASHINGTON — The wait is over. The official trailer for “Wicked: For Good” has been released as Elphaba and Glinda make their triumphant return to the big screen.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, “Wicked: Part One” starred Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda and became one of 2024’s biggest box office hits. The film reimagined the world of Oz, exploring an unlikely friendship between two witches.

The movie earned nearly $1 billion worldwide and received 10 Academy Award nominations, including for Best Picture.

Now, one year later, the story will continue with the highly anticipated follow-up, “Wicked: For Good,” set to premiere in theaters on Nov. 21. Picking up where the first film left off, the sequel will follow the duo’s journey with Elphaba as a newly declared enemy of the state and Glinda stepping into her role as the Good Witch.

The trailer gives the first hints to how Elphaba and Glinda’s stories play out. Viewers also got a taste of Erivo and Grande’s version of the fan-favorite song “For Good,” which played in part under the trailer.

The second film will feature musical highlights from the second act of the Broadway show, and fans can also expect something new, as both Grande and Erivo will each have original songs in the movie.

To build anticipation for the upcoming release, Universal Pictures hosted special screenings of the first film across the United States and Canada. Attendees were the first to see the trailer for the sequel, which played in theaters after the screening.
