The positive cases were all found in mosquitoes, and there are currently no reported human cases of the virus.

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — Glynn County officials are taking safety measures and warning the public about the presence of the West Nile virus in the Brunswick area.

Glynn County Public Works was notified Friday by the county’s mosquito control contractor that multiple mosquito pools tested positive for the virus, including at Blythe Island Regional Park, the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, the Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill and on New Castle Street.

The positive cases were all found in mosquitoes and there are currently no reported human cases of the virus.

The Georgia Coastal Health District has been notified about the positive cases.

In response to the positive tests, the county is increasing mosquito control efforts.

Officials said teams are inspecting and treating known mosquito breeding sites to target the mosquito population in its early stages, setting up traps and spraying. Aerial spraying is scheduled for Monday, officials said.

The measures will be in place until the mosquito population returns to a “safe level,” officials said.

“Glynn County Public Works and Vector Disease Control International will remain vigilant in monitoring ongoing test results and will share any additional positive findings with the public,” officials said in a press release Friday.
