The White House was placed on lockdown following a dramatic incident on Saturday afternoon, as confirmed by Fox News. A gunman, wielding a pistol, unleashed chaos near the iconic residence in Washington, D.C., resulting in an intense confrontation with the U.S. Secret Service.
According to Chad Pergram, Fox News’ Chief Congressional Correspondent, the incident began around 6 p.m. local time when the assailant fired approximately three shots toward the executive mansion. In response, Secret Service agents engaged the shooter, returning fire in the process.
The tense exchange of gunfire took place in the vicinity of 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, as detailed by the Secret Service. Amid the chaos, a civilian passing by was caught in the crossfire and sustained injuries. The current condition of this individual remains unclear.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing as many as 30 shots ring out near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, painting a vivid picture of the alarming situation that unfolded near one of the nation’s most secure locations.

The suspect never got inside the general perimeter of the White House grounds, Pergram said.

FBI Director Kash Patel said his agency’s agents are at the scene and “supporting Secret Service responding to shots fired near White House grounds.”
Secret Service agents were heard telling reporters to “get down,” before the press were ushered into the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room in the West Wing.
