McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says February was the “lowest month in recorded history for (migrant) encounters at our border.”

In a post Saturday on X, Noem thanked President Donald Trump “for your strong leadership and to our brave @CBP officers and agents for keeping America safe.”

She reposted Trump’s social media post that said there were 8,326 apprehensions of undocumented immigrants by Border Patrol agents at the U.S.-Mexico border in February.

“My first full month in Office, had the LOWEST number of illegal immigrants trying to enter our Country in History – BY FAR!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump says those encountered “all of whom were quickly ejected from our Nation, or, when necessary, prosecuted for crimes against the United States of America.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection releases monthly encounter data but has not released February figures.

The latest CBP data, released in January, reports a total of 179,572 immigrant encounters by U.S. Border Patrol since the start of Fiscal Year 2025 on Oct. 1. But that data includes over four months of encounters under the previous Biden administration.

In January, there were 29,116 immigrant encounters on the Southwest border, CBP reports. The most, 6,397, occurred in the San Diego Sector. The Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector reported the second-most encounters with 5,965, and the El Paso Sector was third with 4,871, CBP reports.

The number of single adults encountered on the Southwest border so far in Fiscal 2025 has dropped 73% from the previous year and the number of families have dropped 84%, CBP reports.

“The Border is CLOSED to all Illegal Immigrants,” Trump wrote. “Under Joe Biden, there were 300,000 illegals crossing in one month, and virtually ALL of them were released into our Country.”

“The men and women of U.S. Customs and Border Protection are aggressively implementing the president’s executive orders to secure our borders. These actions have already resulted in dramatic improvements in border security,” CBP Acting Commissioner Pete Flores said.
