The View issues panicked legal correction after Whoopi Trump slur

During a live broadcast of “The View” on Monday, Whoopi Goldberg received a note that prompted her to clarify a comment she made regarding former President Donald Trump. Goldberg, visibly frustrated, ended up tearing the note on air.

The note, as discovered by the Daily Mail, was reportedly sent by the show’s producers and delivered to Goldberg by her co-host Sunny Hostin. This occurred amidst a discussion about presidents employing an autopen to sign official documents.

The conversation took a turn towards Trump’s recent appearance on “60 Minutes” the previous evening. Hostin focused on Trump’s decision to pardon Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, a convicted Binance fraudster, questioning Trump’s admission during the interview that he was unaware of who Zhao was.

“Why don’t you know who this guy is?” Hostin asked, referring to Zhao, who had confessed to not adequately combating money laundering on his cryptocurrency platform in late 2023.

Goldberg interjected, “Because he used an autopen,” implying that Trump might not have been fully aware of the pardon’s details.

As the conversation moved on, Hostin subtly passed a note to Goldberg across the table.

‘What the hell? What? “We don’t know if Trump used an autopen to pardon,” Goldberg said as she read it. ‘It was a joke!’

‘Yes, we don’t know whether Trump used an autopen to pardon-‘ replied Hostin, a legal expert, as Goldberg continued to complain.

‘Oh, come on!’ Goldberg said, before ripping the note to shreds.

‘Well, I’m sorry. The hardest thing about this job now is no one understands nuance.

‘You know when you hear a joke, when somebody’s fooling around, when they’re not saying something specific. Especially on this show, I’m very specific when I’m…pointing stuff out. When I’m making jokes, you know when I’m making jokes!

‘This is ridiculous,’ Goldberg concluded.

Trump pardoned Zhao on October 23, four months into his 87-month sentence, with a statement from the White House blaming the conviction on the Biden administration’s ‘desire to punish the cryptocurrency industry.’

The View has been known for regularly criticizing the Trump adminstration and the president’s policies while offering mostly kind words for Democrats.

In May, top brass at ABC News and parent company Disney asked the show’s panelists to dial back their constant complaining about Trump.

The White House suggested that The View ‘is the next to be pulled off air,’ after Behar remarked that Trump was ‘jealous’ of former President Barack Obama.

Guests on the show this year have included Biden, Kamala Harris, Congressional Democrat Jasmine Crockett, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, former President Bill Clinton, and Democratic senators Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, and Elissa Slotkin.

A recent study from Media Research Center’s Newsbusters confirmed the program featured almost no right-wing guests this year.

Goldberg revealed last week that Republican firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is scheduled to appear on the show Tuesday.

Back in December, ABC News was forced to fork over a $16million settlement to Trump, following erroneous on-air comments from Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos said during a live taping last year that Trump had been found civilly liable for raping writer E. Jean Carroll when neither verdict in the case involved a finding of rape as defined under New York law.

Trump also sued CBS News in October, following a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris he said was ‘deceptively edited.’

CBS News subsequently paid Trump a $16million settlement over the summer.

The Daily Mail has reached out to ABC News for comment.
