When Giovanni, the boyfriend of Karine ‘Kaky’ Daniel González, passed away unexpectedly in 2022, she found herself relying heavily on the support of her friends. The loss felt as though a part of her had vanished alongside him, yet with the unwavering support of her friends, she was able to navigate through the depths of her grief and eventually find a path forward.
In an effort to honor this profound bond and the strength she drew from her friendships during such a challenging time, Karine chose to make a unique gesture of commitment to her closest companions. She orchestrated a ‘sisterhood wedding’ last month, in which she exchanged vows with her dearest friends, signifying their unwavering support and connection.
This extravagant celebration spanned three days and came with a price tag of $250,000. The event was attended by 70 of her closest friends and took place in the picturesque city of Cartagena, Colombia. The festivities included a series of memorable parties and even a visit to a private island, making it a truly unforgettable occasion.

‘It started with me planning a huge birthday celebration. But someone told me, “This sounds like a wedding,”‘ she recalled during an exclusive chat with the Daily Mail.
‘And instead of brushing it off, I thought, “Why don’t we celebrate friendship with the same importance we give romantic love?”‘
The days-long event began with a welcome reception at Hotel Voilá, where every ‘woman received a custom bracelet by Nelly Rojas Jewelry.’

That’s why she decided that she wanted to ‘commit herself’ to her closest pals by exchanging vows with them during a ‘sisterhood wedding’ last month
‘Every event was curated to honor sisterhood, healing, joy and storytelling,’ shared González.
The ceremony was held the next day on the rooftop of the Movich Hotel Cartagena de Indias, which boasts stunning views of the city and nearby Caribbean sea.
The bride stood in front of her friends and they all exchanged vows as a group before saying ‘I do’ together.
González, 40, an event planner who splits her time between Miami, Florida, and Cancun, Mexico, described the moment as ‘surreal.’
‘Seeing every version of my life… a friend from Kuwait next to a friend from New York next to a friend from Africa – all these different chapters of me standing together… it felt like my soul was in one room,’ she gushed.
‘It was like watching all the women who helped build me, honor me at once.
‘It felt elegant, emotional and powerful. We even had gospel singers the perfect mix of Cartagena’s charm and the love I have for the women around me.’

The ceremony was followed by a dinner at Restaurante Donjuan, which González described as ‘one of the best and most iconic restaurants in the city.’
On the final day, they visited the stunning Barú Island, where they celebrated at the elite Zamaz club.
‘We decorated with natural mushrooms and organic elements to highlight the beauty of nature,’ she said.
‘My friend Nathalie, who is a coach, guided us through a meditation… We were all dressed in white, and the energy felt pure, sacred, and healing.’
The entire thing cost her a whopping $250,000 but ‘beyond the money’ was the ‘sweat, tears and sleepless nights’ that went into assuring everything was perfect.
And she admitted that she faced judgement over her decision to throw such an extravagant event.
‘I lost friends along the way people who didn’t agree with my idea. And that’s okay,’ she shared. ‘Every big dream comes with a cost.’

In the end, she has no regrets and is happy she got to honor her friends.
‘My favorite moments were watching my sisters enjoy every detail. Seeing them feel seen, spoiled, celebrated… that was priceless for me,’ she said.
‘You can choose your people, and you can love them loudly. Women deserve to be celebrated with the same intensity we celebrate the men in our lives,’ she reminded others.
‘Friendship can be sacred. It can be lifelong. It can be your greatest love story. You can spend $100,000 on a wedding but you can also spend $100,000 on your friends that have gone through the ups and downs, whoever you choose is okay.
‘Loyalty is a decision. Choosing someone as your family, choosing to stand by them, even when they annoy you or challenge you… that is love. For me, loyalty comes before anything.’
