In a tragic incident unfolding just after the holiday season, a Jacksonville woman has been charged with murder following the death of a man reportedly stabbed at his residence. Authorities identified the suspect as Teri Owens, aged 44, who was taken into custody on Tuesday.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the victim, 69-year-old David Spivey, was discovered with a stab wound to the chest at his Grand Park home on West 30th Street, close to the intersection with Leonard Circle East. The incident occurred the day after Christmas.

Emergency services promptly transported Spivey to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries post-surgery.

Prior to the arrival of law enforcement, Spivey managed to place a call to 911, as stated in the arrest report. Owens was apprehended in the vicinity of the crime scene, matching the description provided by Spivey himself.

A 911 call was made by the victim before police arrived, according to an arrest report. Police detained Owens near the home because she matched the suspect description given by Spivey.

Owens was arrested that night on separate charges, according to the report, after drugs and drug paraphernalia were found near her purse in the home. An officer said Owens admitted to smoking “crack” that day.

The relationship between Owens and Spivey was not immediately disclosed by police, nor was a possible motivation.

On Tuesday, she was officially charged with second-degree murder.

“We’ll continue to seek justice for Spivey’s friends and family,” JSO wrote on social media Tuesday night.
