The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said five people were detained following the deadly shooting.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was shot and killed during a party on Jacksonville’s Westside early Saturday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office told First Coast News.
JSO Sgt. Highfill said at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 5800 block of Rover Drive in reference to the shooting.
When they arrived, Highfill said officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her “upper chest.” Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead, according to Highfill.
Highfill said the woman was about 20 years old, and said a witness reported that three to four gunshots were fired.
“What we know now is there was a party with a gathering of a number of people,” Highfill said. “During that party, a fight broke out, which ended in gunfire.”
Highfill said officers detained five people and that they would be interviewed.
“We’re trying to determine the relationships of the people that were here, and involved, and present during the incident,” Highfill said.
When asked if those detained are considered people of interest or witnesses, Highfill told First Coast News at 6 a.m. Saturday: “At this point, I can’t speak to that. I don’t know the involvement of the people that we have detained.”
