A woman was found dead with apparent trauma in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday morning as police worked to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Officers were dispatched to the park after receiving a 911 call reporting an unconscious person at about 9:43 a.m., according to Fox 5 New York.
Responding officers and emergency personnel found a woman believed to be in her 60s unconscious and unresponsive.

Police said the woman had suffered trauma to her body. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Authorities have not identified the woman or released additional information about the trauma and events leading to her death, the outlet reported.

“Terrifying. I think of the park as a very safe place any time of day or night, so absolutely terrifying,” a frequent park visitor said. “My heart goes out to her family and friends.”
The woman said she had never experienced anything in the park that made her feel afraid. Although Sunday’s discovery was disturbing, she described it as an isolated incident and said she planned to continue visiting every day.

A frequent park runner also described the news as upsetting. “It’s terrible. It’s just terrible news,” the runner said, noting that the area is generally safe. The runner added that the unusual police presence would not prevent them from returning.
No arrests have been reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
