Following a trip to Mexico, a 40-year-old woman was stung by a scorpion while collecting her luggage at Boston’s Logan Airport, leading to her hospitalization.

The woman was collecting her bags at Terminal E just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday after flying back from Mexico when she was stung by the creature in the baggage claim area of customs, Massachusetts State Police said.

Boston EMS responded to the incident and brought the woman, who has not been identified, to a nearby hospital, a spokesperson confirmed.

ā€œI’m not seeing any working theories as to how the scorpion ended up in the airport,ā€ Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Gregory Jones told The Post over email.

The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

Officials could not provide an update on the woman’s condition Tuesday morning.

There have been no other sightings of scorpions since Sunday, Jones added.

Scorpion stings or bites can cause mild discomfort or pain, and symptoms usually only last up to 48 hours, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The pesky insects are typically found in dry, desert climates — mainly in the southern and southwestern portion of the country — though some live in grasslands, forests and inside caves.

Most scorpions live in dry, desert areas, most commonly in the southern and southwestern United States, the CDC said. Some species can be found in grasslands, forests and inside caves.

Police are investigating the incident.
