A Texas woman was left hospitalized after a neighbor’s pit bull viciously attacked and ripped part of her face off in her own front yard.

In Houston, Yvonne Randle, aged 76, was entering her front yard on Southbridge Road one evening. Suddenly, two dogs charged at her from a nearby house, as shown in surveillance footage.

Feeling alarmed by the approaching dogs, the elderly woman retreated as they came closer. Unfortunately, one of the dogs started attacking her out of sight of the camera.

Despite her attempts to defend herself by searching for an object to use as a shield, she was knocked down as she bent down to pick up a potential weapon, by one of the aggressive canines.

‘I was trying to reach the ground, maybe pick up a brick or something out of the flower bed, and he knocked me down,’ she said, recounting the attack to ABC13.

Randle said it was after she was on the ground that the pit bull started gnawing on her chin.

‘He was trying to get my throat, and I said, ‘Oh my god. This dog is gonna kill me,” she told the outlet.

Unsure of what to do next, Randle said she threw up her hands to protect herself, but the neighbor’s dog then began biting one of her hands – ultimately breaking her thumb.

Her harrowing screams eventually caught her son’s attention, who lives next door, as well as the dog’s owners.

‘There were visible signs of shock. She couldn’t catch her breath, she couldn’t really talk at that moment,’ Randle’s son, Damien, said.

Surveillance footage showed the frantic owners, who claimed they let their dogs out in the backyard and that it ‘somehow got free,’ racing across the street – one even losing both shoes in the hurried dash – to capture the savage canine.

‘When they are loose, put a leash on them so they can control them. Don’t just let them run. Cause I’ve seen the dog all over the neighborhood,’ Randle said.

Houston Police have since cited the dog’s owners for not securing the dog, failing to vaccinate it, and not having a dog license.

The next day, after an almost hour-long discussion, the owner finally surrendered the dog.

The city of Houston’s municipal animal shelter, BARC, said it has since placed the pit bull in quarantine.

‘If nobody was out here and if I didn’t hear her from in there, it could have been a very, very, very, very different day,’ Randle’s son, Damien, said.

Randle has since returned home from the hospital, her thumb set in a cast and her face scarred from the violent and unprovoked attack.

Just days earlier, on Sunday, a 65-year-old woman was killed by three dogs in northeast Houston when they broke through a fence and attacked her in her backyard, according to ABC13.

The woman’s name is yet to be released as an investigation into the deadly incident remains ongoing.
