As Americans get ready to sit down with their family and friends for Thanksgiving dinner this year, there is one topic many of them hope to avoid: politics.

For those who would prefer their turkey without a heated debate, TikTok creator Neko Ashi has revealed her brilliant hack for keeping the peace this holiday season.

‘So Thanksgiving is coming soon, and you’re dreading people arguing over politics. C’mon people! I have a solution for you,’ she said at the start of her 30-second video.

Instead of asking guests to not bring up politics and hoping that they oblige, she came up with a fitting punishment for those who broke her rule.

‘Announce at the beginning of dinner that anybody who brings up politics in any way, shape, or form will be seated at the children’s table,’ she advised.

To add insult to injury, they will also ‘be responsible for entertaining the kids for the rest of the night.’

‘That should keep their mouths shut,’ she said.

She ended the video by wishing everyone a ‘Happy Thanksgiving.’

‘The holidays are stressful enough. Don’t let politics make them worse!’ she added in the caption.

The hack would likely work in big households, but one commenter noted that they didn’t have any young children at their celebration.

A few also pointed out that the younger generations could be worse than the adults when it came to starting political debates.

‘We don’t have any kids. My Gen Z son would rip his nana apart if she tried it so she’s smart enough to keep her trap shut (hopefully),’ one person responded.

‘Our kids’ table is full of tweens who talk more about politics than the adults do! Gen Alpha is fierce!’ someone else added.

‘I refuse to people. That solves the problem. No peopling,’ another joked.

Roughly six out of 10 voters want to avoid discussing politics this Thanksgiving, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll that was released on Monday.

Only 29 per cent of people are looking forward to discussing the state of the country with their family and friends this year, compared to the 61 per cent who are firmly against it.

‘A healthy dose of “zip it” will be on the menu as voters acknowledge that if they plan on “talking turkey” over the big meal, it will be about the food and not about politics,’ Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said of the results.

And it’s something that the majority of Democrats and Republicans can agree on.

The survey found that the answers were similar across all groups, regardless of age and political affiliation.
