Police arrest a woman for allegedly supplying fentanyl that led to a 23-year-old’s overdose death in the East Arlington of Jacksonville.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman has been arrested in connection with the fentanyl overdose death of a 23-year-old who died in a hotel room in East Arlington earlier this year, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.
According to police, officers responded to the scene in March after the young woman was found unresponsive. The Medical Examiner’s Office later determined she died from a fentanyl overdose. Investigators say she had traveled from out of state to Florida to purchase drugs.
Detectives from the JSO Narcotics Overdose Investigations Unit launched an in-depth investigation and eventually identified 38-year-old Taira Mrochek as the alleged supplier of the deadly drugs. She was arrested last month and is currently being held in the Duval County jail on a charge of manslaughter.
“This case highlights the dedication of our Narcotics and Narcotics Overdose Investigation Units,” JSO said in a statement. “Our detectives work tirelessly to remove dangerous drugs from our streets and hold accountable those who distribute them in our community.”
Police say they are working closely with the State Attorney’s Office on the case.
