DENVER (KDVR) Denver emergency crews extricated an employee at the Frito-Lay plant on Monday after they allegedly fell around 40 feet into a corn silo, but only suffered minor injuries.
The Denver Fire Department said on X just after noon that its crews and the department’s technical rescue team were responding to a “confined space incident” after a person had fallen in the corn silo.
The agency reported the location as a Frito-Lay plant on 37th Avenue.
In an update, the fire department said that an employee was not, in fact, stuck in the corn or had reported any injuries, but was on top of the corn and needed to be extricated by crews from above.
The employee was able to put on a rope and harness, which was lowered by the department’s team, and ultimately was lifted out of the silo.
PepsiCo, which owns Frito-Lay, provided the following statement to affiliate KDVR.
We are aware of an incident involving one of our employees earlier today at our Denver Frito-Lay facility. The employee received prompt medical attention for minor injuries and is expected to be okay. Safety is our top priority, and we are reviewing the incident in line with our standard protocols. The incident did not impact our operations or products.
The Denver Frito-Lay plant opened in 1947, according to the Texas State Historical Association.
