The Yankees flashed what’s possible when three former MVPs are at the top of their order.
Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, and Aaron Judge hit consecutive home runs to kick off the first inning against Nestor Cortes, who was making his return with the Brewers. This quick succession of homers gave the Yankees an early 3-0 lead and got the fans in the stadium excited after only three pitches.
Austin Wells added another homer later in the inning for his second of the season to give them a 4-0 lead.
It was the first home run of the season for all three players, and it was a rewarding outcome of Aaron Boone’s decision to place Goldschmidt in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career.
According to YES Network’s Michael Kay during the broadcast, this event marked the first time in Yankees history that the team hit four home runs in the first inning.
