The New York Yankees are once again seeking to enhance their infield roster by signing a seasoned player.
Paul DeJong has reached a minor league agreement with the Yankees, which includes an invitation to join the major league spring training camp, as reported by The Post’s Jon Heyman on Sunday morning.
The 32-year-old DeJong enjoyed his prime years with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2017 to 2023. However, in recent years, he has moved between teams, spending 2025 with the Washington Nationals where he achieved a .642 OPS across 57 games.
A right-handed batter, DeJong hit 24 home runs in 139 games during the 2024 season. While he is primarily a shortstop, his versatility has been on display as he has also played at third base, second base, and first base over the past two years.

DeJong’s presence in camp offers the Yankees a flexible option capable of competing for a bench role. This is especially vital as utility player José Caballero is expected to cover the shortstop position extensively during the first part of the season, while Anthony Volpe recovers from left shoulder surgery.
The Yankees have also brought back Amed Rosario, who provides important infield flexibility and a righty bat, on a $2.5 million deal, while utilityman Oswaldo Cabrera is expected to be a full go after fracturing his ankle last May.
The low-risk signing of DeJong comes as the Yankees are still trying to accomplish their top priority of the offseason, re-signing Cody Bellinger.
They have still yet to add a player to their 40-man roster that was not in the organization last year, outside of Rule 5 draft pick and reliever Cade Winquest.
