This incident marks the sixth time in five years that the former child actor has faced arrest.
WASHINGTON — Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Zachery Ty Bryan, known for his role as a child star, and his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, found themselves in legal trouble in Oregon.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office reported that the 44-year-old actor and his fiancée were taken into custody on November 29 after an incident at a well-frequented campsite in Eugene, Oregon. The arrest followed a report of reckless endangerment while the couple and their three children were traveling in a pickup truck.
According to police reports, the situation escalated when Bryan exited the vehicle and began walking on the road. Cartwright allegedly tried to run him over, resulting in the truck, with their children inside, veering into a ditch. Fortunately, Bryan managed to avoid harm, and those inside the truck were unharmed as well.
Authorities noted that both Bryan and Cartwright, aged 32, appeared impaired during their interaction. Subsequently, Cartwright faced charges of attempted first-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, and driving under the influence, while Bryan was detained for violating probation linked to a previous fourth-degree assault charge.
According to officials, Bryan was not supposed to be in contact with Cartwright per a court order related to a 2023 conviction for domestic violence.
Jail records show that Byran and Cartwright were still in custody, as of Wednesday.
According to PEOPLE, Cartwright was arraigned on Monday and pled not guilty on all charges and was granted a no contact order against Bryan.
Their three children were placed with a family member, officials said.
It is Bryan’s second arrest this year, having been arrested and charged on suspicion of second-degree domestic violence in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in January, according to the Los Angeles Times. In 2024, he faced two DUI arrests in two separate states. In 2023, he was arrested and pleaded guilty to felony assault in the fourth degree.
In 2020, Bryan was arrested for allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend.
The former child star was best known for his role as Brad Taylor in Tim Allen’s “Home Improvement, which aired on ABC from 1991 to 1999. Bryan also appeared in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” according to his IMDB.
