Fans praise Zendaya for 'saving' Met Gala after string of awful gowns

Zendaya has been praised as a savior of the 2025 Met Gala after a string of what many have called ‘horrendous gowns’

Dressed in an all-white suit from Louis Vuitton, the 28-year-old A-lister flawlessly captured the essence of the ‘Tailored For You’ theme at fashion’s most prestigious event.

She looked absolutely stunning in a white three piece suit complete with single-breasted jacket, waistcoat, and flared trousers.

The Euphoria star added to the ethereal look with a matching tie and massive stylish hat.

She accessorized with a flew platinum diamond encrusted rings on her fingers.

Her signature brunette tresses were tucked into her fashionable hat as she donned dramatic make-up including dark lip and smokey eye.

As Zendaya followed a parade of gowns which many trashed on social media, some fans took to X (formally Twitter) to bringing her fashion A-game while on theme.

One wrote:  What we been waiting for [exhale emoji] zendaya you save every single event #MetGala’

Another said: ‘Zendaya said let me hurry and go save this mess. [laughing while crying emoji] #MetGala’

Many critic took to social media to blast some of the looks, primarily those who chose to wear gowns instead of tailored suits like many interpreted the theme to be.

One star who drew the ire of negative commentary was Zendaya’s Euphoria co-star Sydney Sweeney.

The actress arrived to the Met Gala wearing a simple black, cut-out gown but some fans were not into her look.

People rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to criticize it. Some said it was ‘not on theme’ while others called it ‘dull’ and ‘basic.’

‘I fell asleep, yawn,’ wrote another outraged fan.

For this year’s gala, every chair or committee member is black except for Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour,

NBA superstar LeBron James is the honorary chair, while Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams are the other co-chairs for the event.

The rest of the committee members include artist André 3000, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, global athletes Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, designer Grace Wales Bonner and painter Jordan Casteel.

Designer and fashion titan Dapper Dan, rapper Doechii, actress Ayo Edebiri, respected fashion editor Edward Enninful and playwrights Jeremy O. Harris and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins are also on the committee.

While artist Rashid Johnson, actress and director Regina King, filmmaker Spike Lee and author Tonya Lewis Lee, actress Audra McDonald, musician Janelle Monáe, actor Jeremy Pope joined them.

Elsewhere, athletes Angel Reese and Sha’Carri Richardson, designer Olivier Rousteing, singer Tyla, R&B icon Usher, and lauded artist Kara Walker round out the group.

When the theme was announced last October, it sparked fears of an ‘appropriation disaster’ from fashion fans.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City revealed that the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style was inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

According to Vogue, the exhibit includes garments, paintings and photographs that explore ‘the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th-century through present day.’
