The highly anticipated world premiere of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” took place in Hollywood on Monday, captivating audiences with its grand unveiling.

Among the luminaries gracing the event were stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, along with the visionary director James Cameron.

This third installment in the monumental “Avatar” series brings back beloved characters including Jake Sully (portrayed by Worthington), Neytiri (brought to life by Saldaña), and Kiri (played by Weaver). It also introduces new faces, such as Oona Chaplin, who steps into the role of the villainous Varang.

The film’s narrative unfolds with fresh challenges on Pandora, as an aggressive new tribe emerges, setting the stage for a story rich with female protagonists at its core.

Speaking on the red carpet, Saldaña praised Cameron’s inclusive casting approach. “James Cameron is fearless in his choice to cast exceptional talent, irrespective of race or gender,” she remarked. “Together, we’re in Pandora, striving to narrate an extraordinary tale.”

Worthington noted that audiences are familiar with the characters and story, but Cameron “ramps it up.”

When asked if he’s able to watch the film as a regular moviegoer, Cameron said, “Up until before I started mixing the movie I could still cry in the scenes where you’re supposed to cry, and there are about five of them in this film.”

Weaver said the film resonates with what’s going on in the world right now.

“It’s a difficult, challenging time and there’s a lot of heartbreak,” she said.

There’s plenty of action to go with it, too.

“Expect the unexpected because what you think is going to happen is not going to happen,” said Jack Champion, who reprises his role as Spider. “Everything is just going to go pretty bonkers.”

There’s also the man who composed the score for the movie that has a run time more than three hours.

“I did say at some point I have run out of notes,” composer Simon Franglen said. “I have written 1,904 pages of music for this film.”

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” will be in theaters Dec. 19.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of 20th Century Studios and this ABC station.
