ROGER MICHELL AND ANNA MAXWELL MARTIN’S RELATIONSHIP EXPLORED

Roger, who often kept his personal life outside of the public eye, met Anna when he cast her to play Sophie in the Australian play Honour. The actress instantly fell in love with her director, and the following year, Roger cast her opposite Daniel Craig in Enduring Love.

In an interview with You, Anna revealed that initially, the Notting Hill director showed no interest in her, but she knew he was the man she wanted to have kids with.

The pair finally got married in the year 2002 and stayed together for 18 years before parting ways in 2020.

Anna revealed last year that the pair had officially ended their marriage and had been separated for quite some time. Anna and Roger shared two daughters, Maggie and Nancy.

Speaking about the divorce, Anna told, “I haven’t really spoken about it because it isn’t fair on all the people involved.”

“There are four children to think about,” she said referring to Roger’s other two kids from a previous marriage.

WHO WAS ROGER’S EX-WIFE?

Roger was previously married to actress Kate Buffery, who is known for her roles in Wing and a Prayer (1997–1999), Trial and Retribution (1997–2002) and theatre shows like Daisy Pulls it Off.

Roger and Kate were married for 10 years between 1992 and 2002. They shared two kids, agent Rosanna Michell and actor Harry Michell.

Many cinema lovers took to Twitter to mourn the director’s death.

What makes the filmmaker’s death even more heartbreaking is that it came before the national release of his final film, a comedy named The Duke, starring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren. The film revolves around the theft of the Wellington portrait from the National Gallery in 1961.
