According to the background check as per Fox News, Omarova was arrested by Madison, Wisconsin, police officers on June 2, 1995, and charged with “retail theft.”
The White House defended her nomination in a statement to Fox News, saying the nominee has been “fully transparent” about the incident throughout her career.

Saule Omarova was born in the West Kazakhstan Region of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic. She attended high school in a small, tiny Kazakh provincial town.

She was born to her parents in 1966 which, makes her 54-55 years of age. Her exact birthday is not known. She got her bachelor’s degree at Moscow State University.
Followed by Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her nationality is American with Kazakhstan ethnicity. She was born in a yurt – a traditional tent in Kazakhstan.
Currently, she resides in the United States with her family. She was chosen by President Joe Biden to serve in the position of Currency Comptroller.
She was termed as Biden’s new comrade and has been taking over the news for her political career. She is a Cornell Law School professor. She had a private law practice.
Omarova worked in the Treasury Department under former President George W. Bush. Her arrest was ultimately dismissed in January 1996.
