Hayley Keating, a mother of two, allegedly killed her husband by “throwing” a large kitchen knife that sank four inches into his chest, according to testimony provided to the jury.

According to the prosecution, Keating allegedly threw a kitchen knife at her husband in the early morning hours of May 14 while in a drunken rage fueled by drugs and alcohol.

The knife entered the father of two’s chest by 10 centimeters at the couple’s Yeovil, Somerset, home, Bristol Crown Court jurors were informed.

Both of the victims’ past committed relationships described him as “caring, gentle, and a loveable rogue,” rather than violent or possessive.

Despite being “over the top” in her actions, Keating was seen as “funny, charming, and pleasant.” Jury members found that both of them struggled with depression and used cocaine and alcohol recreationally.

Yeovil Woman Hayley Keating said that her husband was “trying to leave her,” which had left her feeling “angry and distraught.” Furthermore, drugs and alcohol had only made things worse.

Even though she had stabbed her husband, prosecutor Jo Martin QC remarked that this statement “may not be right.”

The defendant, she said, then claimed that “she threw the knife in his direction” and that “she does not know how he was harmed, and she cannot recall what happened.” She described this to the judge.

Miss Martin suggested that the jury should consider whether Keating threw or held the knife in her hand, as well as how the victim’s chest was stabbed 10 cm deep.
