After earning US citizenship in 2010, he began participating for the US national para-alpine skiing team after representing Serbia internationally.
He is from Bosnia and Herzegovina, a war-torn nation. His family migrated to Serbia when he was a child to escape the conflict.
He spent my youth and adolescence preparing to become a professional handball player with the goal of competing in the Olympics.

He was recruited into the army at the age of 18 and commanded to participate in the war.
He understood the instructions were a death sentence, and that his service would be brief since he was of Bosnian and Serbian heritage.
As a result, he took the painful decision to go to the United States, leaving behind his family, friends, and aspirations to play professional handball.
He went to the University of North Carolina in Charlotte in the United States of America to study international business.
