Jeffrey Allsbrooks is a congressional staffer who strolled into the Longworth House Office Building carrying a rifle. After spotting a picture of a handgun in a backpack on an X-ray screen, US Capitol Police detained him, despite the fact that he didn’t even have a license.

He works in the office of the House Chief Administrative Officer, and he allegedly told authorities that he had forgotten the gun was in his luggage.

It’s unclear why Alllsbrooks was allowed to pass the screening with a firearm in his rucksack.

However, the question arose after officials failed to detain him at the security checkpoint and he was only discovered afterwards.

Longworth afterwards received a security alert during the police operation. Employees were instructed to get inside their offices or the nearest ones, turn off their electronics, and secure their doors and windows.
