John passed away in 2021 at the age of 75. The statue of Thomas was taken from New York City Hall after officials agreed unanimously to have it removed. The rationale for this was owing to the past president’s history of enslavement.

John Jefferson, 3xgreat grandson of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings passed away. In 1998, his willingness to take a DNA test helped “change the course of scholarship around TJ and reunited his family w distant cousins who’d remained in the black community.” A brave soul. Who Is John Jefferson?

Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, and Sally Hemings,  an enslaved woman, had a great-great-great-grandson named John Jefferson.

His lineage’s whole history was forgotten until his sister Julia began researching their ancestors in the 1970s with the help of Fawn Brodie, an author who had written about his 3xgreat grandparents’ relationship.

Dr. Eugene Foster had the opportunity to test the validity of the Jefferson and Hemings rumors in 1998 when he collected John’s DNA sample. The doctor discovered a genetic match between John and the male descendants of Thomas Jefferson’s uncle.

As a result of this proof, the trajectory of Thomas Jefferson’s scholarship changed. It enabled him to reconnect with distant cousins whose forefathers had remained in the black society. John attended multiple Monticello family gatherings.

His ancestors are well-documented, but his educational qualifications and career experience remain a mystery. We do, however, know a few facts about him. On July 10, 1946, he was born in Philadelphia to the late William Magil and Dorothy Annette (Weeks) Jefferson.

He was a former member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Norristown and St. Patrick’s RC Church in Jeffersonville before his death. He was also a member of the Brother House of the Legion of Mary. He enjoyed religious retreats at St. Joseph’s in the Malvern Hills, where he was devoted to praying the rosary.

John Jefferson Wife

The identity of John Jefferson’s wife is unknown.

Furthermore, we have no idea if the man was married or not. In the list of survivors on the funeral website, there was no mention of his wife or even child. Furthermore, John avoided the limelight.
