Rachael Rollins is the chief law enforcement officer for the cities of Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop in Massachusetts.
Rollins is the first black female prosecutor in Massachusetts, as well as the first woman elected as Suffolk County District Attorney.
Instead of focusing her limited resources on the most violent and severe offenses, Rollins has introduced humane and data-driven rules that no longer criminalize mental health difficulties, substance use disorders, food and housing insecurity, or immigration status.
One of her key achievements and policy implementations is the formation of the nation’s first Discharge Integrity Team, which reviews officer-involved shootings and charges of excessive force.
The DIT is made up of a community person, a criminal defense attorney, a retired judge, and a member of law enforcement.
