Viktor Orban Party Fidesz

Fidesz, led by Viktor Orban, is a right-wing populist and national-conservative political party in Hungary.

The Alliance of Young Democrats was founded in 1988 as a center-left and liberal activist organization opposed to the reigning Marxist–Leninist government. In 1990, it became a political party, with Orban as its head.

Between 2002 and 2010, it was in opposition. Then in 2006, it formed a partnership with the Christian Democratic People’s Party.

More About Viktor Orban Career

The economy and Hungary’s membership in NATO dominated Viktor Orban’s first tenure as prime minister, from 1998 to 2002, when he led a conservative coalition government.

From 2002 to 2010, he was the head of the opposition. After Fidesz won a supermajority in a coalition with the Christian Democrats in 2010, Orban was re-elected Prime Minister.

Orban was re-elected three times in a row, in 2014, 2018, and 2022, and became the country’s longest-serving prime minister in November 2020.

He became the European Union’s longest-serving incumbent head of government in December 2021.
