Following the pain disproportionately affected Mercedes and warned drivers across the grid could not keep moving until the end of the season if the problem persisted.
George, however, managed to finish fourth at Imola, having started 11th. His Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton, endures a fruitless and frustrating race in 13th and the race winner’s ignominy of being lapped by Max Verstappen.
The Mercedes suffered from the porpoising, the violent bouncing on the straight caused by the effect of ground aero unloading and loading, that stymied their car’s performance all season.
It was particularly severe at Imola, and to lessen it, Mercedes had to compromise their set-up, which ultimately affected tire grip and downforce with knock-on issues across the car.

George Russell stated he suffered back and chest pain during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. He was born to his father, Steve Russell, and his mother, Alison Russell, the youngest alongside two siblings.
