Sarah Porter is a young basketball player whose true disappearance has been portrayed in “Secrets in a Small Town,” also known as “Nowhere to be Found,” a Lifetime thriller released in 2019.

Thoman Michael directed the film, which premiered in March at the Canadian Film Festival under the title Nowhere before being picked up by Lifetime. The film stars Kate Drummond, Al Mukadam, and Rya Kihlstedt in the lead roles.

The young girl went missing mysteriously after basketball tryouts. Ruth Simmons was the head coach of a small-town girls’ high school basketball team with whom Sarah had joined to play basketball.

The coach approached Sarah’s mother, asking her to allow Sarah to join her team. Sarah went missing when she went to a party with her new teammates. Sarah’s mother discovered that her daughter hadn’t returned home the next morning.

Sarah’s mysterious disappearance led her mother to suspect that something bad had happened to her daughter. As per her demand, Kat and her teammates were interviewed by police.

However, they all gave the same story Sarah got drunk, trashed her new teammates, and left the party. But Sarah’s mother refused to believe their stories, and Ruth also appeared to support Sarah’s mother.

According to the movie, Sarah Porter was a teenage girl who played basketball under the team of the head coach Ruth Simmons. Sarah and her mother have moved to a small town from Chicago.

The teenager is apparently, very good at playing basketball and getting recruited to play for the team. Head coach, Ruth Simmons, tells Sarah that they all are united together and have each other’s backs.

The team even invited Sarah to a team bonding party after practice. Sarah’s mom was initially worried about her daughter going to an event where boys and alcohol might be.

Before going to bed, her mother called Sarah, but she didn’t answer. The next morning her mother was surprised to see Sarah had not returned. She rushes to the school and more surprisingly Sarah was not there also.

Sarah Porter was raised by a single mother, Claire. After the death of her husband, she moved to a small town with her daughter. Claire was the new vice-principal of the school, whereas Sarah was a student.

With no help from the cops, Claire decided to search for her daughter independently. However, a cop comes by and discovers Sarah’s shoe in the woods, and then soon, a search team is organized.

Later, Kat, captain of the team and the daughter of head coach Ruth Simmons, admits everything. The hazing drinking, taking her to the woods and dropping her over a cliff. She also mentions that Sarah is alive and locked in a shack.

Claire and the police rush to find the shack and see coach Ruth burying Sarah alive in the woods. Claire then pushes her out of the way and pulls Sarah. Sarah saves the day by saying, “abracadabra.”

Ruth loses her balance and falls, hitting her head on a rock and killing herself. Kat and her teammates were arrested.
