“What a loss. One could have written books about him. But first, this tribute to Franz as the undisputed and highly-respected king of soap operas. Many people who still write soap operas today have learned from him. A big one is gone,” said Leon.

Obituary- Alan Lancaster Death Cause – Wife Dayle Lancaster and Kids – Sadly, the bass player of Status Quo passed away at 72. Reporter Craig Bennett has confirmed Alan Lancaster’s cause of death. Craig announced that Alan died of MS disease.

He reportedly had been suffering from Multiple Sclerosis for a long time and passed away on September 25, 2021, at his home in Sydney, surrounded by his family.

Alan Lancaster migrated to Australia in the 1980s and lived in Sydney. He formed The Bombers in Sydney with The Angels‘ guitarist John Brewster in 1988. The two later had the “Lancaster Brewster Band” with their occasional singer, Angry Anderson.

He was also a member of the supergroup The Party Boys in 1987. They had a couple of hits with covers, including:

  • “Hold Your Head Up”
  • “He’s Gonna Step On You Again”

He was a founding member of Status Quo. The band had over 60 Top 40 hits in the UK, and they had 25 UK Top10 albums and released more than 100 singles. They opened Live Aid in July 1985. His last album with Quo was the 1983 “Back to Back.” Alan’s last ever show as a Quo member was on April 12 2014 in Dublin.

“At the request of his loving and deeply cherished family, am heartbroken to announce the passing of Alan Lancaster, British born music royalty, guitar God and founding member of iconic band, Status Quo. Alan Lancaster passed away this morning at his Sydney home, surrounded by family. Alan had been dealing with Multiple Sclerosis. He was 72. Status Quo began Rockin’ All Over The World in 1967. The legendary band amassed decades of hit songs, including Down Down and Whatever You Want. Alan married his beautiful wife Dayle Lancaster in 1978. They met when Alan and Status Quo, along with Slade and Lindisfarne, toured Australia in 1973. Alan, who was a dear and special friend, is survived by Dayle, his children Alan Jr, Toni and David, plus five grandchildren. Dayle said this morning that Alan loved his life in Australia. His mother and father, plus his brother and sister also moved to Australia. Dayle said: ‘we are all heartbroken. Alan had a wonderful wit and a fabulously dry sense of humour. He was a devoted and adoring husband, father and grandfather. Family was always his focus.’ Despite having MS and issues with his mobility, Alan participated in hugely successful reunion tours in the UK & Europe in 2013 & 2014. He bravely played to thousands of adoring fans..and loved being back with the band and his loyal Quo army. Vale to an absolute legend and one of the nicest people in rock and roll.”

We had some great times with Alan and his musical exploits back then. The Lancasters are are truly beautiful family… they will be devastated. I separated from my second wife 16 years ago and lost contact with Alan and Dayle, albeit I have court up with Toni on occasion via Facebook.”

Alan Charles Lancaster (born February 7, 1949) is a British bassist, the most famous of the British rock band Status from 1967 to 1985. He was one of the leading singers for albums and live performances. One, lead singers like “Backwater”, “Is there a better way”, “Bye Bye Johnny”, “High Flyer” and “Roadhouse Blues”.

Alan Lancaster formed the group with his classmates in 1962. Francis Rossi. On July 13, 1985, he last performed as a full-time member of “The Status Quo” at the Life Aid opening ceremony at Wembley Stadium. In March 2013, he collaborated with his former band members to host a “Crazy Four” concert series in the UK.

While attending Sedgehill Comprehensive School in 1962, Lancaster met future singer and guitarist Francis Rossi while playing in the school’s orchestra. The couple and their partners Alan Key (drummer) and Jess Jaworski (keyboardist) formed a band called The Scorpions and performed their first performance at the Samuel Jones Sports Club in Dulwich. In another performance at the sports club, manager Pat Barlow approached the band and Lancaster’s mother agreed to let him lead the band. Key was replaced by Air Cadet drummer and future Quo member John Coghlan, and the band was renamed The Specters. “We are rookies,” Lancaster noted. “None of us can play notes, but together we are very good.”

The Wraiths wrote their own materials and performed live, and in 1965 they performed at the Butlins Holiday Camp in Minehead. Here, they met future Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt, who participates in a song and dance performance called “The Highlights.” The band became close friends with Parfitt and agreed to continue working together. In 1966, the Ghost Band signed a five-year deal with Piccadilly Records to release three singles that did not make the chart. After embracing psychedelic drugs, the group changed its name again, this time renamed “Traffic Jam”.
