Arizona Sheriff Handling Guthrie Abduction Case Faces Potential Recall Vote

0

Before February began, many Americans were likely unfamiliar with Pima County, Arizona. Nestled along the state’s border with Mexico, Pima County is home to Tucson, Arizona’s second-largest city. However, in early February, the nation’s attention turned to this region, captivated by the story of one of its residents, Nancy Guthrie. Her tale has not only engrossed true crime enthusiasts but has also taken on unexpected political dimensions.

In case you haven’t followed the most talked-about human interest and true crime saga of 2026, journalist Sister Toldjah from RedState has extensively covered Nancy Guthrie’s story. Guthrie, an 84-year-old mother and grandmother, has been at the center of this national conversation since early February. Toldjah’s coverage began with an article on February 2, which piqued widespread interest (you can explore further stories here).

In her reports, Toldjah included details from a press conference held by Chris Nanos, the Sheriff of Pima County. He revealed unsettling information about Guthrie’s situation, stating that she was forced to leave her home involuntarily.

As Toldjah continues to delve into this gripping narrative, the broader implications and political undertones of Guthrie’s story remain under scrutiny, drawing in readers and raising questions nationwide.

Toldjah also shared some information from a press conference held by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, including the disturbing detail that Guthrie left her home against her will:

“She did not leave on her own. We know that,” he noted.

Toldjah continued:

Later in the day, however, Nanos revealed an even more chilling detail, saying that he believed that Mrs. Guthrie was kidnapped while she was asleep in her bed:

The disappearance is very disturbing to the community, Nanos told MS NOW — formerly known as MSNBC — on Monday, saying investigators believe she was removed from her house against her will.

“You have an 84 year old lady who is home in bed, asleep in the middle of night (and) disappears,” Nanos said. “That’s not Tucson and that’s not who we are here.”

Why Uma Thurman Chose New York Over Los Angeles: Her Unconventional Hollywood Journey

0

Uma Thurman carved out a top-tier career in the film industry without ever truly settling in Hollywood. In an exclusive chat with InStyle, the actress revealed that her decision to bypass Los Angeles might have cost her a stronger bond with the entertainment world.

Thurman, known for solidifying her reputation as both a leading actress and an action figure in “Kill Bill,” opted to keep her life anchored in New York City.

“I always kind of wished I had relocated to Los Angeles,” she confessed during a cover story interview.

There was a moment when she nearly transitioned to the west coast, as her flourishing Hollywood career consistently drew her to California.

“I even secured an apartment there at one stage because of my frequent work engagements. But just as I signed the lease, I discovered I was expecting my daughter a mere six weeks later.”

Instead of settling in Los Angeles, Thurman pivoted, choosing family over being close to Hollywood.

However, Thurman added that although the decision was practical, it came with trade-offs.

“I never did time in Los Angeles, and because of that, I kind of never integrated into the community of my own profession, and I think that’s too bad,” she continued.

Rather than building connections within Hollywood circles, Thurman found her sense of community elsewhere, much closer to home.

“I had more of a community with the other mothers at pickup on 16th Street and Rutherford Place, and that’s OK. But I wish I’d had that chapter. I think I really would have liked it.”

Still, Thurman makes clear she doesn’t dwell on missed opportunities.

“I think the choice to be happy is one that should be made, regardless of any conditions,” she said.

Thurman was previously married to actor Ethan Hawke. The couple met while filming “Gattaca” in 1997.

In 2004, Thurman filed for divorce from Hawke after being separated for several years.

The couple married in 1998, and their divorce was finalized in 2005. The two share two children, Maya and Levon.

Thurman and Hawke have both moved on to new relationships after their divorce

Hawke married Ryan Shawhughes in 2008, and they share two daughters, Clementine and Indiana.

Thurman dated Arpad Busson, and the pair became engaged in 2008 before splitting in 2009. The pair were off and on until breaking up for good in 2014. They welcomed their daughter, Luna, in 2012.

Funeral Plans Announced for Chicago Firefighter Michael Altman Following Tragic Fire Incident

0

Michael Altman, a dedicated fourth-generation firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department, tragically leaves behind a young son and a wife who is expecting another child. His loss is deeply felt within the community and among his fellow firefighters.

In remembrance of Michael’s service and sacrifice, arrangements for his funeral have been set. The visitation will occur on March 26, from 3 to 8 p.m., at the St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel in Chicago. The following day, March 27, a funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. at the same location.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Altman’s untimely passing occurred on Tuesday, following injuries sustained in a fire he was bravely combating on Chicago’s North Side the previous day. His commitment and heroism in the line of duty will not be forgotten.

In a solemn tribute, Altman’s fellow firefighters accompanied his body from Cook County Hospital to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday. This poignant procession underscored the respect and camaraderie he garnered among his peers.

Altman, a 32-year-old CFD EMT, fell from a Rogers Park building’s first floor, which collapsed, and into the basement around 11:30 a.m. Monday. It happened in the 1700-block of West North Shore Avenue.

Altman, assigned to truck No. 47 in the Edgewater neighborhood, was on the job for nearly two years. He leaves behind his young son and his wife, who is pregnant with their second child.

Altman was a fourth-generation firefighter with CFD. His grandfather was, at one time, the commissioner of the fire department.

He was identified as CFD EMT Michael Altman, Chicago Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt said.

Late Tuesday, purple and black bunting was being installed at CFD headquarters to show honor, respect, and mourning of a public servant. Flowers and a pair of boots were also placed on the ground.

Altman is described as always putting others first. His two-year mark with CFD would have been in May.

CFD said seven people who live in the building that caught fire were displaced, but they were all able to get out. No one else was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire crews believe the fire originated somewhere in the back of the building.

Meghan Markle’s Netflix Exit: The Untold Story of Her Surprising Departure

0

Few enterprises boast as heartwarming a beginning as Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As ever. During the pandemic, the former actress embraced a new pastime—making jam.

When a basket containing her homemade jam found its way to Netflix executive Bela Bajaria, an intriguing question arose: “Could this be a show?” Reflecting on the moment at the Time100 Summit last spring, Meghan confessed, “Initially, I hadn’t considered sharing it in such a public way.”

However, she was soon convinced. Filming two seasons of With Love, Meghan, along with a Christmas special, took place in the spring of 2024, with releases in March, August, and December of last year.

Following the show’s success, the lifestyle brand blossomed. As ever officially launched in April 2025, showcasing its signature jams alongside flower sprinkles and cookie mixes. By July, the range expanded to include wine, sparkling wine, tea, candles, bookmarks, and even more jam. This week, news broke of a collaboration with a high-end floral delivery service.

Last year, it was revealed that Netflix had joined forces with Meghan as a commercial partner for the As ever brand.

But that partnership is no more.

Essentially, the streaming giant put money in but the brand struggled, and the plug was officially pulled on Friday, March 6.

As one source said: ‘There was just all this jam. We had thought that there would be more to it.’

In a statement released on the same day, a spokesperson for As ever offered the spin that Meghan and her sprinkles just didn’t need the streamer and its billions.

As one source said: ‘There was just all this jam. We had thought that there would be more to it’

‘We have experienced meaningful and rapid growth and As ever is now ready to stand on its own,’ said the spokesperson.

At Netflix’s massive headquarters in Los Gatos, California, they were somewhat surprised to read those distinctly snarky words.

For its part, Netflix had released a statement, from an anonymous spokesperson which was carefully supportive. It ran: ‘Meghan’s passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life.

‘As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently.’

In fact, the partnership had broken down far earlier – at the first available opportunity, exactly one year after coming into being.

When Netflix started out, the idea was for the streamer to partner with the brand at least until it was profitable.

But that’s not what happened. I am told this week that relations have been in serious difficulty since the autumn of 2025.

A source says that the streamer will never badmouth Meghan: ‘No one is willing to be other than supportive in public’, and yet, as was asserted in an explosive account published in Variety magazine this week, Netflix is ‘done’ with the Sussexes – at least when it comes to As ever.

It’s not out of the question that there will be a further ‘seasonal special’ of With Love, Meghan, but I’m told: ‘I don’t think anyone is going to be killing themselves with an effort to work with them at this point.’

That’s very bad news for Meghan and Harry, who have a first-look deal with Netflix. If it doesn’t greenlight projects from the couple’s company Archewell Productions, then their money hose will run dry.

Indeed, Meghan and As ever seem to have been expunged with Stalinist thoroughness by the top brass, which casts doubt on the feasibility of all their media ambitions going forward, and seems to indicate a proper behind-the-scenes falling out.

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos has unfollowed both Meghan and As ever on Instagram. So has his creative chief Bela Bajaria. Both have been extremely positive about Meghan previously, with Sarandos calling her ‘the rock star’ as recently as last spring.

He was in awe of her ability to capture attention, and was impressed by the way every item shown in their 2022 blockbuster, score-settling, documentary Harry & Meghan sold out – even the Hermes blanket which was seen artfully folded over the back of a chair. However, the mood music has changed. Both Sarandos and Bajaria have been heard saying things in private about the pair which were ‘not complimentary’, although my sources declined to share exactly what.

And those turbo sales didn’t arrive at As ever, which has acres of unsold stock – up to $10 million (£7.5 million) worth according to the entertainment bible Variety.

So much for ‘meaningful and rapid growth’.

Some unsold stock was put out on tables at the Netflix offices earlier this year for staff to take if they wanted. Of course, this is standard in some establishments, but it certainly gave the impression there was more As ever product than anyone knew what to do with.

It’s quite a falling off, as I’m told Sarandos was so ‘all in’ with the couple that he even allowed Harry, Meghan and her family to stay in his $34 million (£26 million) home in Santa Barbara when they bought their own huge place in Montecitom. ‘Ted let them stay over at his while their place was being renovated. They were very close,’ says a Californian source.

He was part of the team which agreed to sign them to that $100 million deal in September 2020, after their ‘Freedom flight’ to the US following Megxit. The deal was crucial to their financial independence. Meghan was close to Sarandos’ wife, Nicole Avant, a powerhouse who was the US ambassador to the Bahamas and whose father was the chairman of Motown Records. But Avant has also unfollowed Meghan and As ever on Instagram, too.

The same is true for the coterie of Netflix executives who used to work with Meghan and the brand.

Meghan has effectively been purged.

As to what went wrong, fundamentally there were differences over the direction of the brand. It can be revealed that Netflix had a vision, which would have started with rose wine, and gone on through five phases including the introduction of china and glassware, then food, followed by an expansion into physical retail spaces, and finally a cookbook.

All of it was to be sold on the back of Meghan’s sophistication and elegance.

I hear that Netflix simply wasn’t able to interest Meghan in any of that. Her enthusiasm for business was genuine enough – she and Harry are well aware they need to make money – but she didn’t care to take the advice offered by the Netflix head of consumer products, Josh Simon.

After he left Netflix last year, to take a new role elsewhere, the writing was on the wall. Meghan, it seems, was never going to write a cookbook and she didn’t want to lend her name to napkins and teacups, even though that does great business for Netflix hit Bridgerton via the London store Liberty.

A source says: ‘The issue was sales in the end. The product was not taken up in the way that people had hoped. The jam thing became totemic. There was just all this jam. We had thought there would be more to it.

‘The failure was more to do with the product and the business model, which didn’t work, than a people thing about Meghan being difficult. Although I hear there was an element of both.’

The source added: ‘What we have with Bridgerton, for instance, is a commercial brand partnership with an existing outlet, but that’s not what we had here. It didn’t work, and so it came to an end.’

After Josh Simon left, Meghan hired her own independent brand consultant and ‘creative director’ Devin Pedzwater, who had worked with Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop. It was a clear signal that Meghan was no longer looking to Netflix for input.

Variety says that as the deal soured, so did her relationships with key executives. According to the entertainment industry bible, three insiders say Sarandos is ‘fed up with the pair – who, say two sources, have been known to text directly with the co-CEO about their projects, as do many A-listers who work with the streamer.’

The magazine says that two sources insist Sarandos recently said he would not sit for a call with the Duchess unless a lawyer was present on the line, which, of course, could have been a joke. A Netflix spokesperson said it was ‘absolutely inaccurate’ that Sarandos made the comment.

Litigator Michael J Kump, in a letter to the publication, raged: ‘This is blatantly false. In fact, Meghan texts and speaks with Mr Sarandos regularly, and has been to his home, sans lawyers.’

The magazine adds that Sarandos and his wife socialise frequently with Meghan and Harry and are neighbours.

The article adds: ‘Similarly, chief content officer Bela Bajaria is said to have grown weary of the Sussex pact.’

A Netflix spokesperson denied this, saying it was ‘absolutely inaccurate’ that Sarandos and Bajaria have lost faith in the couple. Bajaria was even prevailed upon to give a warm statement (but not Sarandos, which appears to speaks volumes).

She said: ‘Archewell has been a thoughtful and collaborative partner and we’ve really enjoyed working with Harry and Meghan. They are deeply engaged in the storytelling process and bring a unique, global perspective that aligns with the kinds of impactful projects our members respond to.’

Note the use of the past tense.

Beyond debate is the performance of With Love, Meghan. The ratings for series one were respectable if not stellar. It was viewed 5.3 million times, the 383rd most popular show of the six-month period. That put it on a par with other lifestyle offerings.

Series two, which was critically panned as ‘gormless’ and ‘absurd’, showed a serious case of diminishing returns, drawing only two million viewers and being ranked 1,217 for the period.

It didn’t give a meaningful boost to the brand, because the crafting and cooking on display – making fruit platters and so on – were totally divorced from the offerings of As ever. The only product in common was wine.

As the ‘experimental’ pact between Netflix and As ever continued, some eyebrows were raised over the way Ted’s ‘rock star’ did business.

Variety writes: ‘In virtual and in-person meetings with partners, she tends to talk over or recast Prince Harry’s thoughts, sometimes while he is mid-sentence, sources say (usually preceded by a touch to the arm or thigh).’

Prince Harry tells Variety this is ‘categorically false’, and their lawyer accused the magazine of playing into a ‘misogynistic characterization of her bossing her husband around’.

Even more curiously, it is reported that Meghan disappears during Zoom calls, with Netflix employees being told that she had been offended by something that was said. Her lawyer denies this and says that any absences would be down to their children entering the room unexpectedly during a meeting.

Those complaints appear trivial, and yet the impression given is damaging because it all rather sounds as if Meghan and Harry don’t know what they are doing, at least where Hollywood is concerned. If they can’t attract viewers – aside from incendiary interviews about the Royal Family – or sell merchandise, then what is the point of them?

And, with the chilliest winds blowing through the entertainment industry, nobody needs to be reminded that it is called showbusiness for a reason.

Brad Pitt’s Image Takes a Hit: Exploring the Decline of a Hollywood Icon’s Reputation

The following article discusses allegations of domestic and child abuse.

Brad Pitt’s public image has faced considerable challenges since his breakup with Jennifer Aniston in the early 2000s. Despite the high-profile split, Aniston has consistently maintained that she holds no animosity towards Pitt. In a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the “Friends” actress expressed her frustration over the persistent media frenzy, describing it as “stupid, soap-opera bull****.”

Brad Pitt’s rep has been tainted ever since his divorce from Jennifer Aniston in the early aughts, and unfortunately for the “Fight Club” star, a number of scandals in the years since haven’t exactly helped matters. From the Oscar winner’s second divorce to his fallout with his children and even a massive legal battle, there’s a lot to comb through. It’s worth noting, though, that despite their high-profile split essentially marking the starting point of Pitt’s reputation taking a nosedive, Aniston has long said she has no beef with her ex-husband. In fact, while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2015, the “Friends” star complained that the constant chatter was annoying, lamenting, “If the world only could just stop with the stupid, soap-opera bull****.”

Following his divorce from Aniston, Pitt embarked on a well-publicized relationship with Angelina Jolie, his co-star in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Over time, public opinion seemed to warm to the couple, affectionately dubbed “Brangelina.” However, the relationship dramatically unraveled after a 2016 incident aboard a private flight from France to the U.S. According to a report by TMZ, Pitt was allegedly intoxicated during the flight and became verbally and physically abusive toward his children.

In the aftermath, further troubling allegations emerged. Court documents filed by Jolie in 2022, as reported by RTÉ, claimed that Pitt poured alcohol on his family and physically shook Jolie. The situation reportedly escalated when one of the children intervened, resulting in a physical altercation. “The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying,” the court documents stated. These allegations have significantly tarnished Pitt’s reputation, despite his celebrated appearance at the 2023 Golden Globes.

Brad Pitt’s relationship-ending plane scandal was a major strike against him

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, support is available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1−800−799−7233. More information and resources can be found on their website.

In the months and years that followed, even more disturbing details about Pitt’s plane incident with Jolie surfaced, with allegations including that in addition to pouring beer and wine on his wife and children, the “Se7en” star had physically shaken Jolie, and that once one of the kids intervened, a scuffle broke out. “The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying,” read one claim in court docs Jolie brought against him in 2022 (via RTÉ). As such, when Pitt was depicted as the 2023 Golden Globes darling, his former fans really weren’t buying it.

If you or someone you know is dealing with domestic abuse, you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1−800−799−7233. You can also find more information, resources, and support at their website.

One of Brad Pitt’s sons called him out on social media

In addition to the disturbing claims that emerged about Brad Pitt’s now-infamous flight in Angelina Jolie’s legal filing, you may recall that in honor of Father’s Day 2020, the couple’s son Pax Jolie-Pitt dragged him on social media for being a “world-class a**hole” and an “awful human being,” (via the Daily Mail). An insider confirmed that it was out of character for Pax to have said something publicly about his parents but the Story was brutal, with Pax accusing his estranged father of instilling fear in his kids. “You time and time and again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person. You have no consideration or empathy toward your four youngest children who tremble in fear when in your presence,” he wrote, adding that the Oscar-winning actor irreparably damaged their family.

However, Pax went on to add that he didn’t think Pitt would ever be able to comprehend just how bad the situation really was, because he wasn’t capable of the necessary introspection. The “F1” star’s estranged son concluded his Instagram Story by accusing his father of making “the lives of those closest to me a constant hell.” Pax also alluded to the actor trying to curry favor with the public, but warned, “The truth will come to light someday.” Brad did not publicly respond to his son’s social media comments, nor did Pax or his famous mom say anything when they were highlighted by the Mail.

Some of Brad Pitt’s kids have dropped his last name

While it was Pax Jolie-Pitt who posted an Instagram Story calling his father out, several of his siblings have taken a public stance against the actor as well, by dropping his last name. The first of the Jolie-Pitt kids to drop the second half of their double-barreled surnames was Maddox Jolie-Pitt, though it’s unclear whether it was an official legal change. In 2021, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that he went by “Maddox Jolie” on anything bar official docs. The insider elaborated that Angelina Jolie had urged Maddox to keep his father’s surname legally, and it seemed as though he agreed to that. However, in early 2026, he made headlines after being billed as “Maddox Jolie” in the credits of “Couture,” for which he’d served as an assistant director.

Maddox isn’t the only one of Brad’s kids to have dropped his surname either, at least colloquially. Zahara Jolie-Pitt has also done so, introducing herself in her 2023 sorority induction video as “Zahara Marley Jolie,” per Page Six. Likewise, when Vivienne Jolie-Pitt co-produced “The Outsiders,” a Broadway musical, with her mother in 2024, she was billed as simply “Vivienne Jolie.” At the time of writing, we do know at least one of Brad’s children has changed her name legally: Daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, who is now Shiloh Jolie. The former couple’s eldest biological child filed for the official name change in 2024, on the day she turned 18.

It all but solidified the rift in their famous family, and Brad was said to have been very hurt by it. There’s also no doubt the distancing was yet another knock to his rep. But hopefully, when it comes to his kids, reputation is the least of the actor’s worries.

Brad Pitt’s attempt at do-gooding backfired

Brad Pitt’s reputation took another hit when the houses his non-profit built for survivors of Hurricane Katrina turned out to be poorly built. While the Make it Right project offered sustainable, low-cost homes to the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, the majority weren’t up to snuff. And, in the absence of necessities like rain gutters and overhangs, many tenants began experiencing serious mold issues. Making matters worse, despite repairing some of these problems early on, an academic who lived in the development while conducting research on what had gone wrong disclosed to The Guardian that soon after, residents were asked to sign NDAs.

Eventually, in 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Make it Right and Pitt himself. Despite the actor’s attempts to be removed from it, he was reportedly disappointed by the turn that his attempt at doing something good took. “He remains personally committed to doing whatever he can to helping resolve the ongoing litigation. It was always something that was important to him from the beginning and he very much wants to help facilitate this getting to a much more positive end,” an insider explained.

Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse, and despite non-profit Global Green agreeing to pay the $20.5 million settlement on Pitt’s behalf in 2022, they later admitted they didn’t have the funds, and never had. Fast-forward to 2025, and news broke that the “Troy” star’s lawyers were trying to get him out of a deposition as it would interfere with his work. Notably, although it was long said that residents continued to respect Pitt, by August 2025 many had changed their minds. As one tenant asserted to WDSU News, “You had a responsibility to keep your word, and that’s what he reneged on.”

Brad Pitt’s dodgy reputation may have played a role in Global Green’s offer falling through

Notably, Global Green made specific mention of Brad Pitt’s reputation having soured when they explained why they wouldn’t be able to raise the $20.5 million for the class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of the Make it Right homeowners. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Global Green tried to pull out of their obligation to cover the settlement amount by claiming that the press attention brought on by the A-lister’s divorce had prevented them from being able to raise as much money as they’d anticipated. Specifically, the non-profit referenced the fact that Angelina Jolie had accused Pitt of abuse.

It seems this was top of mind for Global Green, as prior to offering to cover the settlement, their CEO specifically brought it up. Bill Bridge emailed the foundation’s senior project manager for New Orleans to argue, “I’m sure we could get funding and it would allow Pitt to clean up his reputation.” The “reputation” that needed cleaning up was linked to the housing project. For what it’s worth, the “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” star’s team rubbished these attempts at linking the negative press about him to not being able to pay the settlement.

As a representative for the actor pointed out, “Brad had supported Global Green many years ago, so when they approached his team stating ‘$20.5M in funding’ had been secured by their ‘generous donors,’ there was interest in considering their proposal.” Experts also noted how bizarre it was that it wasn’t confirmed by the court ahead of time whether the organization had the money to pay. Either way, talk about another knock to Pitt’s good name.

Osimhen Suffers Arm Injury as Liverpool Dominates Galatasaray to Secure UCL Quarter-Final Spot

Victor Osimhen’s unfortunate arm injury compounded Galatasaray’s woes as they exited the UEFA Champions League following a resounding 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.

This decisive victory allowed Liverpool to progress with a 4-1 aggregate score, effectively overturning Galatasaray’s initial advantage from the first leg and cutting short their European journey.

Early control comes in handy

From the outset, Liverpool asserted their dominance, breaking through in the 25th minute with a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai, who capitalized on a well-orchestrated set-piece play.

Despite being under constant pressure, Galatasaray managed to cling to hope, thanks in large part to their goalkeeper, Uğurcan Çakır. His impressive performance included a crucial save against Mohamed Salah’s penalty attempt just before halftime.

Osimhen injury disrupts Galatasaray

The situation worsened for the Turkish side when Osimhen, visibly hampered by his arm injury, had to be substituted at halftime, severely weakening their offensive prospects.

His withdrawal marked a turning point, with Liverpool capitalising immediately after the restart.

Liverpool second-half blitz seals tie

Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool’s lead early in the second half before Ryan Gravenberch added a third moments later to effectively end the contest.

Salah also found the net to register a milestone goal in the competition, to mark Liverpool’s complete control.

Focus shifts to next phase

Liverpool now progress to the quarter-finals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain in a high-stakes clash.

For Galatasaray, attention shifts back to domestic tournaments, with the club aiming to convert their strong season into silverware despite the European setback.

Man Allegedly Assaults Wife Over Intimacy Dispute, Threatens Children with Disturbing Remarks: Police Report

0

Alfred Sanchez (Dona Ana County).

A man in New Mexico has been accused of violently attacking his wife after she declined to engage in intimacy with him. The alleged assault included punching, choking, and forcibly striking her head against the ground. Following this, he reportedly issued a disturbing warning to their children about the consequences if she ever left him and remarried.

According to an affidavit cited by Law&Crime, Alfred Sanchez allegedly told the children, “If they were to get a new dad … the new dad was going to rape them.”

The 37-year-old Sanchez is charged with assaulting his wife in their Las Cruces residence while their children were present. The wife informed law enforcement that the violent outburst occurred on Sunday night after she declined his sexual advances.

The affidavit details that Sanchez’s wife was feeling unwell and not up to being intimate, which reportedly enraged Sanchez. She told police he subjected her to verbal abuse for three hours.

The document further claims that Sanchez approached her, aggressively removed her eyeglasses, and threw them to the floor. He allegedly placed a hand around her neck, squeezing tightly while pushing her into a couch. The wife reportedly instructed their five children to retreat to their room.

Sanchez allegedly pushed the woman and pinned her down with his body, punched her repeatedly, and slammed her head into the ground twice. “[The wife] stated that she began to have a panic attack and Mr. Sanchez became afraid, picked her up and said he was ‘sorry’ and ‘I have to go,’ then left,” according to the affidavit.

Sanchez, however, allegedly returned to the home later that night and kicked the front door open to confront his wife again. Cops say she managed to escape and ran to a neighbor’s home.

During the initial assault, the woman was on the phone with her sister-in-law, who told cops that she heard Sanchez saying a number of disturbing things, according to the court documents.

He allegedly told her that if they were to get a divorce, she would have to exchange sex for child support; blamed the woman for the fact that he has been arrested in the past and lost his job; asked her if she wants him to “kill her and the kids;” and repeatedly told the children about what would happen if they got a new dad.

Police say they spoke to some of the children about what happened, along with the sister-in-law. The couple’s 9-year-old daughter stated that “she heard mom and dad yelling at each other, and saw her dad push her mom,” according to the affidavit.

“[The child] began to cry and could not give any further statements,” the document says.

The couple’s 6-year-old allegedly told investigators “that his dad had broken the door and started to fight with his mom.” The child made motions resembling “punching and elbowing when stating his dad hit his mom,” the affidavit alleges.

“[The boy] advised his dad threw his mom on the ground,” it adds.

Australia’s Job Market Signals Economic Challenges Ahead: Are We on the Brink of Recession?

The latest employment figures have now stoked fresh fears that Australia’s economy could be shocked into a recession for the second time in six years.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has suggested that a domestic recession might be an unavoidable step to curb the persistent rise in inflation. This sentiment was expressed by RBA Governor Michele Bullock, who candidly acknowledged the potential necessity of such a measure. “We don’t want to have a recession, but if it’s hard to get inflation down, then we’re going to have to deal with that, possibly,” Bullock stated, highlighting the difficult choices facing economic policymakers.

However, this perspective is not universally shared within the government. Treasurer Jim Chalmers, speaking on ABC’s 730 program, dismissed the notion of an impending recession. “No, that’s not something that we’re anticipating or forecasting or expecting,” he firmly asserted, presenting a more optimistic outlook for Australia’s economic trajectory.

Inflation continues to loom as the most significant threat to the Australian economy, exacerbated by a weakening job market. The contrast in viewpoints between the RBA and the Treasurer underscores the complexity and uncertainty of the economic challenges ahead. As the country grapples with these issues, the debate over the best course of action remains as heated as ever.

“No, that’s not something that we’re anticipating or forecasting or expecting,” Chalmers told ABC’s 730 program.

Inflation remains the biggest threat to the Australian economy and this has been compounded by a deflating job market.

Fresh job figures revealed the unemployment rate rose to 4.3 per cent in February after 35,000 people left the workforce.

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data also found the number of hours worked fell 0.2 per cent, with more workers on part-time hours rather than full-time.

Meanwhile, job advertisements took a tumble in the same period.

Ads decreased by 0.5 per cent month-on-month in February and are down 2.6 per cent year-on-year, according to the latest employment report from Seek.

Applications also dropped by 0.6 per cent as workers stay put in an uncertain job market.

Seek’s Senior Economist Dr Blair Chapman told Nine.com.au that the job market is generally a safe indicator of where the economy is headed.

“A sharp decline in jobs ads can be a bit of a red flag that demand is going to slow across the economy,” he said.

“Job ads are a forward-looking indicator of employer intent – when businesses pull back on hiring, it signals reduced confidence in future demand and activity.

“The current decline we’re seeing is steady but gradual, not a sharp decline that should trigger worry.”

Chapman tempered fears that a recession is fast approaching despite the declining job figures.

“Combined, these signals point to weaker demand and a labour market under increasing pressure, though the current data suggests a gradual slowdown rather than a sharp contraction,” he added.

Australia broke a 30-year dry spell after it entered a technical recession during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Before that, Australia suffered a recession from 1990 to 1991 when GDP fell by 1.7 per cent and the unemployment rate rose to 10.8 per cent.

What is a recession?

A recession is a prolonged period of weak or negative growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is the monetary value of all goods and services, is accompanied by a rise in unemployment, according to the RBA.

Essentially, if GDP goes down and unemployment goes up it can equal a recession.

A “technical recession” – which may not be accompanied by a jump in unemployment – is traditionally defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth in GDP.

Several other economic indicators are also weak during a recession, including household spending, business investment and the number of businesses that close down.

Colorado School Employee Allegedly Abuses 13-Year-Old Student, Currently Eluding Authorities

Authorities revealed on Tuesday that a staff member from a Colorado school is suspected of repeatedly sexually abusing a 13-year-old student over several months.

The individual in question has been identified as Brenda Meza, aged 34, who worked at Greeley-Evans School District 6, situated roughly an hour from Denver. According to police, she is currently evading capture and faces multiple serious charges.

Meza served as a secretary, coached the cross-country team, and advised the games club at Franklin Middle School. Allegations against her include grooming an eighth-grade student by providing alcohol and drugs, engaging in inappropriate text communications, and organizing numerous meetings at places such as a park and a Walmart parking lot, as reported by the New York Post, referencing the arrest affidavit and local law enforcement.

“The investigation revealed that Meza engaged in ongoing sexual abuse of the minor over several months,” stated the Greeley Police Department. “As a consequence of these findings, Brenda Meza is currently sought on numerous felony charges.”

Authorities said she allegedly became jealous when the boy interacted with female classmates, the Post reported.

In November, the two reportedly began exchanging a series of sexual text messages, which included at least four explicit photos sent by the boy.

The relationship allegedly escalated in January, when Meza and the 13-year-old are accused of engaging in sexual intercourse for the first time in the back seat of her car in a Walmart parking lot, according to the Post. She also allegedly bought marijuana edibles and alcohol for them to consume during the encounter.

Over the following weeks, the pair allegedly repeated similar encounters at least two more times at a local park. She would also allegedly drop the boy home around 9 p.m., the Post reported.

The investigation further revealed that Meza had taken numerous photos of the pair appearing to drink, holding marijuana blunts, and spending time together during after-school activities, the outlet said.

Police reportedly launched an investigation on Feb. 12 after receiving an anonymous tip alleging Meza’s abuse of the teen.

After school officials confronted her, Meza admitted to her husband that she “got high” and had inappropriate interactions with the teen, the affidavit reportedly stated.

The secretary, who began working at the middle school in 2020, was placed on administrative leave and later terminated by Feb. 25, according to a school memo sent by principal Suzette Luster, the Post said.

The district added that it is assisting police in the investigation and stressed that “student safety and security is always our first priority.”

The police department is reportedly seeking to charge her with 12 felony counts — including sexual assault of a child, online enticement of a minor, and tampering with evidence — along with one charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police are still trying to locate Meza, who authorities say left the area during the investigation and remains at large.

Controversy Arises Over Delayed House Arrest for Man with Limb Disability

0

A suspect recently encountered an unusual obstacle in complying with house arrest requirements: the necessity of wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet—something he cannot do because he lacks ankles. Authorities, however, claim that this did not contribute to any delays in his legal proceedings.

Steven Min, who faces several charges related to trespassing, experienced a delay in transitioning to house arrest. His lawyer explained to the media that this delay stemmed from “a physical inability to wear a mandatory electronic ankle monitor,” according to a report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Min’s situation is complicated by the fact that he uses prosthetic legs, a consequence of losing his legs and left hand to a sepsis infection, reportedly contracted during a previous stint in city jail. To accommodate his condition, Min was ultimately provided with an electronic monitoring device intended for his wrist.

Min’s attorney, Joseph Reiff, voiced his concerns in a recent Clark County, Nevada court session, expressing discontent with the decision to use a wrist bracelet, which he described as “appalling.”

“He’s only got one limb, judge,” Reiff stated, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “They’re going to make sure that he doesn’t have any. This is made for a person’s ankle, and everybody knows a person’s legs are two or three times stronger.”

Reiff reportedly argued that his client also suffers from end-stage renal and kidney diseases, which could complicate his incarceration, and pointed out that Min requires more dialysis care than the jail can provide. Metropolitan Police Attorney Michael Dickerson stated, per the outlet, that Min was not denied dialysis care and disputed that “anything was delayed” for Min.

Reiff did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen

In court, according to the Journal-Review, Reiff shared a March 3 email, reportedly from the Metropolitan Police Department, which addressed Min’s case.

“Our program uses an ankle monitor for its GPS tracking,” the email read, according to the Review-Journal. “This is the only authorized and available equipment for Electronic Monitoring and GPS tracking. Unfortunately, Mr. Min does not have the capability for our Officers to apply our device.”

Dickerson denied that Min’s disability is relevant to house arrest, according to the Review-Journal, instead pointing to Min having at least one active warrant.

“There’s nothing inhumane about monitoring Mr. Min by putting the bracelet on his arm,” Dickerson said, per the outlet. “People wear bracelets and watches every day. This is no different.”

According to Reiff, on March 11, Min was released from jail, per the Review-Journal, but quickly taken into custody again.

As a Metropolitan Police spokesperson reportedly told the outlet, “A compliance check revealed he was in violation of the conditions of his electronic monitoring program.”

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police Department did not immediately reply to a request for comment from Oxygen.
