Heartbreak and Hope: Kate Johnson’s Journey Through Pregnancy and Loss

0

Kate Johnson has garnered a dedicated following on Instagram, where she regularly shares glimpses of her life as a mother of four. The 38-year-old influencer, who hails from Tampa, Florida, is known for her content under the username @nursekatejohnson, a tribute to her previous career as a registered nurse.

Her Instagram account is a vibrant mix of family snapshots featuring her children and husband, conservative YouTuber Benny Johnson, alongside posts about her fitness routines, culinary adventures, and wellness tips.

Recently, however, Kate’s social media presence has taken a more somber turn.

In February, Kate shared an uplifting video with her followers, announcing that she was expecting her fifth child. Following this joyous revelation, she posted heartwarming moments of sharing the news with her husband and reflections on the joys and challenges of parenting a large family.

Tragically, during a sonogram at ten weeks into her pregnancy later that month, Kate received devastating news: there was no heartbeat, and she had suffered a miscarriage, an experience that is every expectant parent’s worst nightmare.

Now, in an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Johnson has shared that heartache hoping that, in doing so, she might offer comfort to the millions of women who have suffered a similar loss.

She recalled: ‘Walking into your appointment and finding out that there’s no heartbeat is shocking. As a mom, you become instantly connected to your baby. As soon as you find out you’re pregnant, it’s all consuming, it’s all you think about.’

Johnson and her husband had decided to share the pregnancy earlier than they had with any previous ones, even consulting their pastor ahead of announcing it.

She felt that sharing her pregnancy so early could provide insight into the challenges of the first trimester for the many young mothers who make up her audience. Instead, in the wake of the miscarriage, while grieving privately, Johnson found herself faced with the pain of publicly sharing the news of her loss.

She did so with trepidation, yet she has found in the outpouring of support she received in response to her announcement, an unexpected balm to her grief.

She said: ‘It wasn’t intentional that it was public, I would have never chosen that. But it’s turned out to be a surprisingly good thing that it was public. I’ve had a lot of support that I wouldn’t have otherwise had. But it’s given a lot of opportunity for other women who’ve walked this and done it completely alone, privately, they’ve never told anybody.

‘It’s given them an opportunity to talk about it and to find healing in being able to talk about it. So, while I would have never chosen it, I’m ultimately thankful that it has gone this way.’

For Johnson, finding support and community with other women who had experienced early loss in a pregnancy was affirming, especially as she cycled through a slew of confusing emotions.

She said: ‘A shocking upside to this being public is that I’ve had just an overwhelming amount of support from friends, families, neighbors – people sending us dinner, people sending us flowers, sending us notes, sharing their experiences.’

Johnson, an outspoken figure in the MAHA movement, said that it was hard to realize that even though she lived and advocated for a healthy lifestyle, there were some things that were ultimately out of her control.

She said: ‘My immediate thought was, “What did I do? What didn’t I do?” And then a lot of shame. In the space I work in, I talk a lot about health and about living as optimally as we can, a healthy lifestyle, and so to have to publicly say that I experienced this felt really shameful at first.

‘But life is up to God and so it’s not your fault. You don’t need to turn that anger or the loss into anger against yourself. You can release it to God and trust that he’s in control.’

As a result of this experience, Johnson realized that miscarriages were far more common than she realized. According to a 2023 report published in Reproductive Sciences, there are approximately 5 million pregnancies per year in the US and 1 million of them end in miscarriage. But despite this, Johnson said, much of the physical and emotional realities of what women experience go unspoken.

‘I don’t think a lot of people understand is that you have to go through [aspects of the] delivery of that baby and all that comes with that,’ Johnson said.

‘You have to go through the hormone shifts and the hard parts of postpartum without having all of the upsides of having your baby and that’s hard. I don’t know how somebody walks this without, one, hope in Jesus, and two, a strong partner, a strong husband by their side to be a steady hand.’

Johnson experienced a missed, or silent, miscarriage, which is when a baby has died in the womb, but has not been physically miscarried, so the mother doesn’t have the usual signs of pregnancy loss, such as bleeding or cramping.

In cases like Johnson’s, where pregnancy tissue doesn’t pass naturally, medical providers may prescribe medication like misoprostol or mifepristone or a form of surgery management like vacuum aspiration or a dilation and curettage (D&C), where tissue is physically removed from the uterus, to prevent infection or hemorrhaging.

‘You have to choose what is the best choice for you,’ Johnson said of her miscarriage management. ‘There’s a risk assessment involved with that for risk of bleeding and risk of infection. The timeline for me was that my body still was not recognizing the loss. It had been three weeks, so the risk of infection starts to go up. We decided to have a surgical procedure to mitigate that risk, because if you have an infection or you hemorrhage, the chances that you damage your ability to conceive again are much higher. So that was a choice.’

Johnson had a D&C – a procedure that is legal in Florida for miscarriages but prohibited for women seeking to terminate pregnancies after six weeks.

She said: ‘I didn’t choose for my baby to not live. For me, this was a choice about making sure I was doing the best thing that I could do to be as healthy as possible for my four children and my husband, who are here. This was not about the baby at all. That decision was about me. People who choose to use a D&C to terminate a pregnancy and intentionally end the life of their baby…well, I pray for them.’

Johnson is staunch in her belief that life begins at conception.

She said: ‘In the Western medical space, we hear all these terms kind of get thrown around as if the life doesn’t matter until we hit that point of viability outside of the mother’s body, or until the baby is born, that it’s just a ‘clump of cells.’ But I’m just a clump of cells. Everybody’s just a clump of cells.

‘The spark of life is not contingent on how many cells you have. I cannot separate my Christian faith from my clinical background, so for me, this is a life. It’s a life from the moment of conception, and it is the loss of a life in our family. You are allowed to grieve this as a loss. You are allowed to feel all of the depth of that pain.’

As Johnson and her family move through the grief of losing their fifth child, they’ve found ways to honor and remember the baby they didn’t get to meet. Johnson’s two daughters had begun calling the unborn baby ‘Rosemary’ when she was pregnant and now, in memory of the child, the family has planted rosemary bushes in their yard.

For Johnson’s husband Benny, who sits by his wife’s side as she speaks, trying to make sense of this tragic loss has been impossible – an inconceivable sadness that has been paralleled only by the assassination of his friend and former colleague, Charlie Kirk.

Benny (far left) and Kate (middle left) were good friends with the late Charlie Kirk (middle right) and his wife Erika (far right)

Benny (far left) and Kate (middle left) were good friends with the late Charlie Kirk (middle right) and his wife Erika (far right)

He explained: ‘We had to deal with the loss of a dear friend of our family, Charlie Kirk, this year. We were very close with Charlie and Erika. And I will never, for the rest of my life, be able to explain it to you why that happened.

‘I don’t know. And I’ve decided to stop trying [to understand]. Because God is the author of life and death. Charlie was so connected with God. He was so spiritually in tune. And Charlie’s life was not mine. It wasn’t Donald Trump’s. Charlie didn’t belong to the Republican Party or Turning Point, he belonged to God, ultimately.

‘And so to fight that, or to be embittered over it, would be to be embittered against our creator, which is a losing battle.

‘Whether you’re going through a miscarriage, or whether you’re just a human being living on this earth you are going to suffer loss.’

Johnson hopes that by sharing her story, other women might feel a little less alone when they’re experiencing pregnancy losses of their own. And that they might be open to sharing their stories as well.

She said: ‘I think that more women should talk about this experience if they want to. There shouldn’t be a social stigma that it’s somehow gauche to talk about this. The amount of women that suffer through this in silence and shame and feel alone…I think it’s been very revealing for me just how much pain they’re carrying, because they never got the opportunity to even acknowledge that this life mattered to them.’

Essential Insights into the Sequel of The Handmaid’s Tale

0

As viewers last exited the world of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the American army had just begun its mission to liberate Gilead, sparking a wave of change along the East Coast. June Osborne, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss, had gained her freedom and was in the process of penning her memoir. Despite this newfound freedom, her life was far from ideal; her daughter Hannah, then played by Jordana Blake, remained in the clutches of a wife school, and the location of her other daughter, Nicole, was shrouded in mystery.

Moreover, the liberation of Gilead was far from complete. Many regions remained under oppressive control, brimming with untold stories of struggle and resilience from those left behind, including aunts, handmaids, wives, and jezebels, all waiting to rebel, dream, and endure.

The first major spin-off from “The Handmaid’s Tale,” entitled “The Testaments,” will delve into Hannah’s continuing journey as she is groomed to become a wife under the guidance of Aunt Lydia, played by Ann Dowd. So, when and where can fans tune in, and what can they expect from the new series? Here’s a comprehensive look at everything known about “The Testaments” so far.

“The Testaments” is scheduled to debut on April 8, 2026, exclusively on Hulu, which also served as the original platform for “The Handmaid’s Tale.” The series will also be available on Disney+, ahead of an anticipated merger of the two Disney-owned streaming services. On launch day, three episodes will be released, with new episodes following every Wednesday.

The inaugural season will feature ten hour-long episodes, set to conclude on May 27, unless there is a break for Memorial Day, in which case the finale would air on June 3. As is customary with Hulu Originals, episodes will be available from midnight EST. Currently, there is no confirmation regarding a second season.

When will The Testaments be released?

“The Testaments” is set to premiere on April 8, 2026 on Hulu, which was also the exclusive launching pad of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” You will be able to watch the show via Disney+ as well, ahead of the two Disney-owned streamers’ expected merger into a single entity. Three episodes will hit Hulu on April 8, to be followed by a weekly drop every Wednesday.

The first season will consist of 10 hour-long segments and should ultimately end on May 27 — unless it skips Memorial Day week, at which point it will wrap on June 3. As with every Hulu Original, new episodes will begin streaming at midnight EST. There’s no word as of this writing on whether or not Season 2 is in the offing.

And if you need to catch up with the history of June, Aunt Lydia, and the world of Gilead before diving into “The Testaments,” all six seasons of “The Handmaid’s Tale” are still streaming on Hulu as well.

Who is starring in The Testaments?

Like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Testaments” is packed with well-known actresses. Heading the cast is recent Golden Globe nominee and “One Battle After Another” breakout star Chase Infiniti, who picks up the role of Hannah from Jordana Blake. Hannah — who has become pious thanks to her education and remains dutiful to the ways of Gilead — now lives under the name Agnes McKenzie and is training to be a wife.

Lucy Halliday will play Daisy, the show’s second lead character. Daisy comes from Canada, a place of political turmoil in the “Handmaid’s Tale” world. She has become a convert to their ways and religion — or so she says. Daisy and Agnes become friends, and their connection might just end up changing Gilead itself. Rowan Blanchard plays Shunammite, a member of a prestigious Gilead family who exerts influence over the rest of the teens, while Mattea Conforti will play Becka Grove, an underprivileged girl who finds herself training to become a wife among the other elite students. And finally, Ann Dowd returns as the complicated Aunt Lydia, whose backstory we learned in “The Handmaid’s Tale.” She now runs the prep school attended by all three girls.

Other cast members who will pop up include Mabel Li as Aunt Vidalia, Amy Seimetz as Paula, Brad Alexander as Garth, Zarrin Darnell-Martin as Aunt Gabbana, Eva Foote as Aunt Estee, Isolde Ardies as Huldah, Shechinah Mpumlwana as Jehosheba, Birva Pandya as Miriam, and Kira Guloien as Rosa.

What is The Testaments about?

“The Testaments” takes place three to four years after the conclusion of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which explains why Hannah/Agnes now stands on the cusp of womanhood, when we last saw her as a tween. Agnes is happily settled into life in her school, and seems to be just another one of the girls — until she is assigned by Lydia to show Daisy the ropes and her point of view shifts.

Life in Gilead is anything but a walk in the park, and Agnes and Daisy are poised to find out just how ugly the world is outside of their sheltered, pampered sphere of existence. “Facing the prospect of being married off and living a life of servitude, they will be forced to search for allies, both new and old, to help in their fight for freedom and the life they deserve,” the show’s official blurb reads in part (via People). With a younger cast dealing with the vagaries of adolescent life against the grim backdrop of their surroundings, creator Bruce Miller described the show to Entertainment Weekly as “‘Mean Girls’ growing up Gilead.”

June is still out there, free, as is Hannah’s father and many of the friends and foes she has made in her battle to free her fellow handmaidens. But will Elisabeth Moss show up to reprise her role as June? “I mean, ‘No.’ [But] I would totally lie to you if I was!” she told TV Insider when asked, so consider that door wide open for now. And there’s no word at press time whether other members of the cast of “The Handmaid’s Tale” will appear in “The Testaments.”

Who directs, produces and writes The Testaments?

Those familiar with “The Handmaid’s Tale” will be pleased to note that several people involved in its creation will also work on “The Testaments.”  Elisabeth Moss co-executive produces the series with Bruce Miller — who long ago teased fans about how “The Handmaid’s Tale” would dovetail into the new spin-off — and Warren Littlefield. All three of them also had a stake in “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Other executive producers include Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker.

Barker has directed four episodes of the new show — including the first three and the season finale — while Stein puts her stamp on two, Quyen Tran directs a pair, and Jet Wilkinson leads two more. The show’s writers include Miller and Sam Rubinek, who also acts as executive story editor. Margaret Atwood — the original author of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” who incidentally didn’t make much money on the Hulu series — is once again credited with having created the program’s characters.

Is there a trailer for The Testaments?

The show’s first-look trailer gives us a preview of what’s transpiring in Gilead these days. Hannah can be seen at the window of her room in the school, looking out over a landscape, and is heard musing in a voiceover that when the Gilead takeover happened, she still had her dollhouse.

Over the strains of “Dreams” by The Cranberries, we get glimpses of the school and its grounds and students. The girls are shown happily playing with and teasing one another — until they run into three bodies, strung up and dangling from an archway. The trailer then segues into scenes of Daisy secretly listening to a radio and hints at mysterious goings-on at the educational faculty. A possible love interest for Hannah is introduced, as is the possibility of romantic temptation leading her astray.

The show is described as a “defiant coming of age story,” and a feeling of destruction, disharmony and chaos loom over the trailer. “It was time to change things,” Hannah narrates, as she, Daisy and Shunammite hold hands, walking confidently together down the school’s hallway — into a future that might be promising or quite dangerous.

Is The Testaments part of a known universe?

As indicated above, “The Testaments” serves as a sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and will presumably be very much like it. Several of the show’s characters have direct connections back to the original program or, in the case of Aunt Lydia and Hannah, appeared in it.

In “The Handmaid’s Tale,” fertility rates have plummeted due to civil war and extreme environmental damage. Gilead — once the United States — is run by selfish Commanders who only seek power and to subjugate women. In their severely reduced roles in society, fertile women who have been branded social outlaws are conscribed to sexual and natal slavery; June becomes a handmaid for Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and his wife, Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski), but rebels against the arrangement by having an affair with Fred’s driver, Nick Blaine (Max Minghella). She ultimately puts a revolution in motion that changes everything around her and leaves her proudly unshackled and silent no more, though separated from her two children.

Both shows are based on books by Margaret Atwood, though the adaptation of “The Testaments” is different from Atwood’s novel in one crucial way — the book is an oral history, told in the form of testimony given by Daisy, Agnes and Aunt Lydia regarding life in Gilead and its eventual fall. Television is a different medium, naturally, but the series will almost certainly still draw much from the book.

Discover the Secrets of Being a ‘Silky Mom’: Embrace Modern Parenting with Style and Confidence

Ever come across the phrase “silky mom”? If it sounds unfamiliar, don’t worry—let’s dive into what being a “silky mom” entails and explore some advantages of this parenting approach.

The concept of the “silky mom” made its debut on social media in 2023 as a counterpoint to the “crunchy mom” lifestyle. While “crunchy moms” lean towards organic foods and natural remedies, “silky moms” navigate parenting with a different philosophy.

According to Parenting.com, a “silky mom” embodies a relaxed and adaptable parenting style, embracing the idea that there are multiple effective ways to raise children.

Dr. Rostislav Ignatov, chief medical officer at The Haven Detox, explains, “A silky mom is well-rooted in contemporary society. She leverages modern technology and adopts a scientific mindset towards her children’s health.”

Curious if you might be a “silky mom”? Here are ten indicators, according to experts, that you could be part of this parenting trend.

  • You keep your pantry stocked with snacks, and the kids always have access to what they want to eat
  • You are easy going about processed food and nutrition labels
  • Fast food is perfectly acceptable as a meal in your house
  • Your kids wear clothes that are decorated with characters from TV shows
  • When your kids are sick, you readily offer Tylenol or Motrin
  • You vaccinate your kids per your pediatrician’s guidance
  • Your kids use or used pacifiers
  • There aren’t any “sad beige toys” in your kids’ playroom—plastic toys that play music or make sounds, or that light up, are totally acceptable in your house. Your kids have their own tablets
  • You don’t set strict screen time limits.

Now that we know what a “silky mom” is, let’s look at some of the benefits. Dr. Caroline Fenkel, LCSW, DSW told Parents.com, that this parenting style can make life easier for the moms.

“The upside is that parents can take advantage of resources that make life easier, which can, in turn, mean less stress, more energy, and more time to be present with their kids,” says Dr. Fenkel.

In addition to making life easier for moms, the experts suggest that other benefits of this parenting style include:

  • creating a relaxed environment
  • promoting independence
  • it prioritizes self-care and mental health

Seahawks Secure Jaxon Smith-Njigba with a $168 Million Contract Extension

0

Jaxon Smith-Njigba is reaping the rewards of a stellar season with a lucrative new contract.

The Seattle Seahawks’ standout receiver and the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year has agreed to a four-year extension worth $168.8 million, as reported by ESPN. This deal elevates him to the status of the highest-paid receiver in NFL history.

Smith-Njigba’s new contract will provide him an average annual salary of $42.15 million, with a substantial $120 million guaranteed.

Now in his third season, Smith-Njigba has emerged as one of the NFL’s most formidable offensive threats. He topped the league charts with 1,793 receiving yards from 119 receptions, scoring 10 touchdowns during the regular season. His impressive performance continued into the playoffs, where he added 199 more yards, playing a pivotal role in leading the Seahawks to their second Super Bowl appearance in February.

This breakthrough season didn’t come as a surprise to those who’ve followed his career closely. Drafted 20th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Smith-Njigba displayed his potential early on. He wrapped up his rookie year with 628 receiving yards, then made significant strides in 2024, amassing 1,130 yards.

He became the Seahawks’ top receiver after they traded DK Metcalf to the Steelers before the 2025 season.

Monday’s deal comes after comments Smith-Njigba made after the Super Bowl that he should be the NFL’s highest-paid receiver.

“I believe I deserve to be the highest-paid in my position,” Smith-Njigba told WFAA in his hometown of Dallas.

“Just what I give to the game and the community, I give it my all. And I think that’s worth a lot more.”

Now, that’s become a reality.

Savannah Guthrie and Family Urge Tucson Community for Assistance in Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance Investigation

0

Savannah Guthrie is reaching out once more to the Tucson, Arizona community, urging anyone who might recall details about her mother’s disappearance to come forward. She hopes to reignite interest and uncover new information that could help solve the mystery surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s vanishing.

The “Today Show” anchor shared an updated family statement on her Instagram account early Sunday, just hours after the program’s own social media platform circulated the message.

In their message, the family expressed appreciation for the support they’ve received from the community, while also emphasizing their belief that someone in Tucson or the broader southern Arizona area might possess crucial information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.

“Someone knows something,” the statement read. “It is possible that a member of this community has information that they do not even realize is significant.”

The Guthrie family is calling on residents to review their own memories from the period between January 31, when Nancy was last seen, and February 1, as well as the evening of January 11, hoping these dates might trigger helpful recollections.

“Please consult camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations, or conversations that in retrospect may hold significance. No detail is too small,” the statement said.

The family also acknowledged in the statement that their matriarch may no longer be alive.

“We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder.”

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Feb. 1. Authorities believe the 84-year-old was kidnapped, abducted or otherwise taken against her will. The FBI released surveillance videos of a masked man who was outside Guthrie’s front door on the night she vanished.

The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the recovery of their mother.

Savannah Guthrie visited the NBC “Today Show” studio in New York City for the first time since her mother’s disappearance on March 5. The show said she plans to return to the air at some point but “remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”

Tucson is a little over 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Phoenix and 70 miles (115 kilometers) north of the Arizona-Mexico border. The Catalina Foothills, the neighborhood where Nancy Guthrie lives, is known as an affluent area with popular hiking trails.

Savannah Guthrie has been a co-anchor of the venerable NBC morning show since 2012. One of her former colleagues, Hoda Kotb, has returned to “Today” to fill in while Guthrie has concentrated on finding her mother.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911, the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI, or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.

Shocking Duggar Family Revelations: Uncovering the Unexpected Number of Arrests Behind Their Wholesome Image

The recent, unrelated arrests of Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell have once again thrust the Duggar family into the public eye, reviving interest in a family that had largely faded from the spotlight. Once hailed as reality TV stars during their decade-long run on TLC, the Duggars were portrayed as paragons of wholesomeness. However, beneath this facade lies a family history marked by controversy and a surprising number of legal troubles.

Before Josh Duggar disgraced the family, Jimmy Lee Duggar spent time in jail

Before the world came to know the Duggars, Jim Bob Duggar’s father, Jimmy Lee Duggar, was already a source of turmoil within the family. In her memoir, Holy Disruptor, released in October 2025, Amy Duggar King, Jim Bob’s niece, sheds light on the dark past. She details the physical and emotional abuse perpetrated by her grandfather, hinting at his possible predatory behavior, drawing parallels to her cousin’s later actions.

Although Amy Duggar King’s book doesn’t delve into this particular aspect, longstanding rumors suggest that Jimmy Lee Duggar served time in prison for fraud during his children’s formative years. Unfortunately, specifics regarding this arrest have become obscured over time, leaving the duration of his imprisonment a mystery.

Josh Duggar was arrested and convicted on child pornography charges

Among the Duggar clan, Josh Duggar, Jim Bob and Michelle’s eldest son, stands out as the family’s most notorious figure. Over the years, he has been embroiled in multiple scandals. In 2015, Josh admitted to molesting his sisters and infidelity. However, it was in 2021 that he delivered a significant blow to the family’s reputation. Following an extensive investigation by the Department of Homeland Security that began with a raid in late 2019, Josh was arrested in April 2021 for possessing and receiving child pornography.

Convicted in December 2021, Josh was sentenced to over 12 years in prison. Despite multiple attempts to overturn his conviction, all appeals have been denied. Currently serving his sentence at FCI Seagoville, Josh claims financial destitution, with his release not scheduled until 2032.

Jana Duggar was taken down to the Tontitown police station, too

In the midst of Josh Duggar’s child pornography trial, news broke that Jana Duggar had had a run-in with the Tontitown Police Department, too. Jana, the second-oldest Duggar child, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child in September 2021.

While Jana stayed quiet about the charge, her sister, Jessa Seewald, took to Instagram to defend her. According to E! News, Jessa revealed that Jana was babysitting when one of the children slipped out unnoticed. Police found the child wandering. Jessa insisted that it was an “innocent mistake” that could have happened to anyone. She did not reveal who Jana was babysitting for at the time, though critics suspect she may have been watching Josh Duggar and Anna Duggar’s children. Jana paid a fine and has since moved on.

Jeremy Vuolo was arrested years before meeting the Duggars

The Duggar family’s troubles with the law seem to extend to their in-laws, too. While the more serious crimes have been committed by Duggar sons, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s son-in-law has seen the inside of a jail cell, too. Years before meeting and marrying Jinger Vuolo, Jeremy Vuolo had a serious run-in with police in upstate New York.

Jeremy, while drunk as a college student, harassed a police officer. Radar Online obtained the 2008 police report, which outlined Jeremy’s drunken behavior, including grabbing at an officer and screaming obscenities. The soccer player turned pastor has discussed the incident in the past, calling it a “wakeup call.” He married Jinger Vuolo in 2016. The couple, who now reside in California, have three children. He’s had no additional legal trouble.

Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell’s arrests are the most recent

The Duggar family is never short on scandals, but the last couple of years, following the release of Jill Dillard’s book in 2023, have been largely quiet. That is, until now. Earlier this week, Joseph Duggar was arrested on charges stemming from a 2020 incident with a minor child. He has been charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior. The victim, now 14, was 9 when the incident occured during a family vacation to Florida. He could spend years behind bars.

While Joseph Duggar’s arrest was shocking, the fact that his wife, Kendra Caldwell, was arrested on unrelated charges days later was even more surprising. Kendra, 27, was arrested on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child and four counts of false imprisonment, according to TMZ. The same charges have been added to Joseph Duggar’s growing list of legal troubles.

Joseph and Kendra’s legal troubles are a developing story.

Iconic ’90s Films That Are Perfect for a Sequel: Why ‘Clueless’ Tops the List

Movies, much like fine wine, can age gracefully and still manage to capture the audience’s imagination decades later. Take, for example, the upcoming The Devil Wears Prada 2. Nearly 20 years after the original film graced our screens, this sequel is set to make its much-anticipated debut in theaters, bringing back the iconic blend of comedy and drama that starred the formidable duo of Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. This continuation is already being hailed as one of the summer’s most awaited cinematic events.

Turning the clock back even further, fans of the 1995 crime masterpiece Heat have reason to rejoice. A sequel is currently in the works, with big names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Austin Butler rumored to be involved. The prospect of revisiting this gritty world with a fresh cast is stirring considerable excitement.

It’s clear that ’90s culture is experiencing a resurgence, prompting a wave of nostalgia across pop culture landscapes. This revival begs the question: Why not breathe new life into more beloved films from that vibrant decade?

Consider the possibilities, from the obvious and beloved choices like Clueless to unexpected contenders like a follow-up to The Sixth Sense. There are several deserving candidates for sequels that could capture the imaginations of today’s audiences.

‘Clueless 2: Totally Buggin!’

Take Clueless, for instance. This timeless ’90s classic continues to charm viewers with its wit and style. Despite this enduring appeal, Paramount has yet to bring a proper sequel to the big screen. While Clueless has seen adaptations and nods in the form of TV spin-offs and short Super Bowl ads, the character of Cher Horowitz, played to perfection by Alicia Silverstone, is worthy of a grand cinematic return.

clueless then and now

See what the stars from the ’90s cult classic are doing today

Cher followed in her father’s footsteps and became a top Los Angeles lawyer. She has it all: a great career, a gorgeous Beverly Hills mansion, a thriving fashion accessory side business with high school bestie Dionne (Stacey Dash) and a killer wardrobe. When her deceased friend Tai’s (Brittany Murphy) teenage daughter asks her for help in finding a boyfriend in time for prom, Cher draws upon her long-dormant matchmaking skills to help the girl out. But will the unexpected return of former flame — and yes, stepbrother in case anyone forgot the original’s vaguely incestuous overtones — Josh (Paul Rudd) derail Cher’s plans and marriage to Bravo reality TV star Paul Charlie Paulstone (Simon Rex)?

With Silverstone’s career on the upswing (she had a key role in the Oscar-nominated film Bugonia) and Rudd somehow still looking as young as he did over 30 years ago, the time is ripe for Clueless 2 to return. The original hasn’t aged a bit, and it’d be fun for everyone who grew up with Cher, Di, Elton (Jeremy Sisto), Amber (Elisa Donovan) and Miss Geist (Twink Caplan) to see what they’re up to — and more importantly, what they’re wearing.

‘The Rock 2’

Nicolas Cage has been trying to make a sequel to his 1997 action blockbuster Face/Off for nearly a decade now, but the Longlegs actor should face facts — it’s probably not going to happen. Fortunately for him, he has a deep bench of ‘90s hits to exploit, and one of the best is The Rock, the 1996 testosteronefest that pitted Cage and Sean Connery against Ed Harris, whose character took over Alcatraz Island in an attempt to get $100 million from the U.S. government.

Connery died in 2020, so Cage could assume the mentor role in the sequel, which can be set in another famous landmark “rock”: the Rock of Gibraltar. When Spanish separatists claim the British territory as their own, the FBI and MI-5 call in two people who can stop them: Cage’s almost-retired Stanley Goodspeed and Lawrence Mason (James McAvoy), the Scottish grandson of Connery’s character, John Patrick Mason. Together, they can bring down the tech-savvy terrorists and save Gibraltar from certain destruction.

Cage still has what it takes to lead a big action movie, while McAvoy is no stranger to the genre, with Wanted and the X-Men films under his belt. If the right actor is cast as the sympathetic villain (Javier Bardem, maybe?), then Hollywood has another surefire box-office winner.

‘The Seventh Sense’

Whatever happened to Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), the innocent 9-year-old boy cursed with the ability to see and talk to dead people? I’ve always wondered about him long after I first watched The Sixth Sense in theaters, and I’m certain I’m not the only one.

Now a grown man, Cole is still haunted by the gift he never asked for. A failed novelist obsessed with conspiracies and the paranormal, the largely reclusive Cole lives in a shabby Boston apartment with no one to talk to except his shrink (Danielle Deadwyler). One dreary afternoon, he’s shocked to be visited by his estranged mother, Lynn (Toni Collette), whom he hasn’t talked to in years. But she has a reason to see him — she’s dead, and she needs his help to find the person who killed her.

A man aims his gun in 'Seven.'

Everyone loves a good thriller. From 1960’s Psycho to 2024’s Conclave, suspense movies have been around for decades and will always find an appreciative audience. The genre has been in a bit of a slump lately, with fewer thrillers released in theaters than in its heyday in the ‘90s. That decade was arguably a high […]

That’s just one of the many, many plots a follow-up to The Sixth Sense could have. The original writer and director, M. Night Shyamalan, could probably conjure a better story, so Disney, please let him. Give him all the money and creative freedom and hire Osment and Collette to reprise their Oscar-nominated roles. Throw in a brief mention of Bruce Willis’ character Malcolm, a spooky score by Alexandre Desplat and you’ve got yourself a surefire hit.

‘The Mask Returns’

In this age of endless comic book sequels and permanent ‘90s nostalgia, I’m honestly stunned a sequel to the 1994 hit The Mask hasn’t happened. And I’m talking about a proper sequel that brings back original stars Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz. (Son of the Mask, you do not exist in my universe!). They’ve previously expressed interest in appearing in another installment, so what are you waiting for, New Line?

As for what the movie is about, well, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they can change things up and Tina, Diaz’s character, can be The Mask and she needs to save Stanley? As long as there’s plenty of zany antics and colorful, state-of-the-art visual effects like the first one had, The Mask 2 could be just as big as the original.

Caribbean Vacation Demand Escalates in Response to Iran Crisis

0

In light of the ongoing conflict in Iran, British vacationers are increasingly turning to the Caribbean as an alternative luxury travel destination, steering clear of the Middle East. This shift has resulted in a significant surge in interest, with searches for Caribbean holidays climbing by 81% in the first half of March compared to the previous two weeks, as reported by TravelSupermarket.

The unrest has compelled travelers to reconfigure their plans, with a staggering six million passengers affected by flight cancellations to and from the Middle East since the conflict’s onset on February 28. Out of 118,642 scheduled services in the region, 63,265 have been grounded.

Moreover, the war has not only complicated air travel with restricted corridors for long-haul routes between Europe and Asia but has also driven up jet fuel prices, raising concerns over future cost implications.

As a result, British tourists who previously favored luxury hotspots like Dubai, Doha, or Abu Dhabi are now setting their sights on the idyllic shores of the Caribbean, seeking sun-soaked escapes in a more stable environment.

Now, Brits who might have travelled to high-end destinations such as Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi for their holidays are now looking at alternatives in the Caribbean.

Experts said some tourists are also considering switching countries within the Caribbean, trying out areas which have been traditionally less popular with Brits.

The Turks and Caicos Islands were found to have seen the biggest boost in interest since the conflict started with share of Caribbean searches surging by 119 per cent.

The Dominican Republic was second with its search share up 100 per cent, while Tobago was third with a 79 per cent rise and St Lucia was in fourth up 55 per cent.

Antigua’s share rose 53 per cent, Jamaica was up 49 per cent and Aruba increased 42 per cent; while Barbados and the Bahamas were both up 23 per cent.

Chris Webber, head of holidays and deals at TravelSupermarket, said today: ‘When global events change holiday plans, we tend to see travellers pivot quickly.

‘The Caribbean is a natural beneficiary. What’s striking here isn’t just the overall jump in searches, but how broadly that interest is spread.

‘Destinations like Turks and Caicos and Tobago aren’t typically where British holidaymakers look first, so to see them surging suggests people are still keen to try somewhere new.’

The research analysed all searches on TravelSupermarket.com over the two weeks from March 2 to 15, compared to the previous fortnight.

British Airways Holidays has also seen a boost for the Caribbean, with Barbados searches up 46 per cent and Antigua up 63 per cent versus the same time last year.

BA last week announced an expansion of its Caribbean routes for this winter – including a new daily London Gatwick to Barbados service from October 25.

There will also be a standalone daily St Lucia service from the same date as well as increased flights from Gatwick to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

It comes as former BA boss Willie Walsh warned last week that air fares are soaring as the crisis engulfing airlines sparked by the Iran war is ‘akin to post-9/11’.

Mr Walsh, now boss of industry body the International Air Transport Association, said tickets on US-UK transatlantic flights would be the worst and quickest hit.

He said that while bookings were holding up, travellers are opting more for Western and Southern Europe and North Africa rather than eastern European destinations such as Cyprus or Turkey, which are closer to the conflict.

Airline bosses have warned soaring fuel prices sparked by the Iran war could be passed onto families looking to get away this summer if the conflict drags on.

Demand has been dropping from UK holidaymakers for getaways to the likes of Turkey, Cyprus and Egypt since the US-Israeli war on Iran began.

But bookings are up for Portugal, Italy and Spain as well as longer-haul trips to the Caribbean as well as the US, Cape Verde, Mauritius, Thailand and India.
