Matt LaFleur Injury
In May 31, 2019, Matt LaFleur suffered a torn Achilles on Wednesday while playing basketball. He had surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon on Sunday. It’s likely the surgery was completed by renowned foot and ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, an assistant team physician for the Packers. LaFleur told Albert Breer of MMQB.com that he’s not expecting the surgery to change anything regarding the Packers’ offseason workout program, save for his need to ride in a cart for the last part of OTAs and minicamp.
“I’m good. Not going to affect anything,” LaFleur said. LaFleur suffered the injury while playing basketball with coaches at Lambeau Field on Wednesday. LaFleur explained to Jim Owczarski of PackersNews.com that it felt like someone hit him in the back of the leg, a sensation most experience while tearing the Achilles tendon.
“We’re all going to face a little bit of adversity,” LaFleur said. “You can’t let it hold us back. So that’s just kind of like my mindset, you know? It is what it is and you make the best out of whatever situation comes.” LaFleur threw out the first pitch at the annual Green and Gold charity softball game Saturday at Fox Cities Stadium while wearing a boot on his left foot.
He had surgery the next day. The plan for LaFleur is to coach from a cart the next few weeks, take a break before training camp and then be back on his feet in late July. The Packers finish up the offseason workout program over the next two weeks, starting with the last round of OTAs this week. They’ll wrap up the program with a mandatory minicamp June 11-13.
