Washington Co. Schools Unveils Plan for Two New Middle Schools

In Washington County, Tennessee, the local school system is contemplating a significant shift in how middle school education is structured.

Superintendent Jerry Boyd of Washington County Schools revealed that discussions are in progress regarding the establishment of two distinct middle schools.

Boyd elaborated, “We’re exploring the possibility of organizing schools into a Pre-K through 5th-grade format for elementary students, followed by a 6th to 8th-grade configuration for middle schools. The idea is to designate a middle school that would serve students moving on to Daniel Boone on the district’s north side, and another middle school for those heading to David Crockett on the south side.”

Anthony Albanese Calls on Australians to Contribute in National Appeal

0

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called on Australians to contribute to the nation’s efforts during these “uncertain times” amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. This appeal came during his first national address, where he highlighted the challenges arising from the current geopolitical tensions.

The brief, three-minute message was pre-recorded and aired nationwide at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing coincides with the escalating economic impact due to Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation. As the situation develops, the economic ramifications are becoming more pronounced.

While the disruptions in the global fuel supply chain have led to soaring crude oil prices and localized shortages driven by panic buying, Albanese stopped short of declaring the situation a crisis. His decision to employ this rarely used form of communication underscores the gravity of the situation, reminiscent of past significant national announcements, such as the decision to engage in the Iraq War.

In his opening statement, Albanese addressed the nation with empathy and encouragement. “My fellow Australians. By nature, we’re an optimistic country. But I understand that right now it’s hard to be positive,” he acknowledged, urging the public to stay resilient and united.

“My fellow Australians. By nature, we’re an optimistic country. But I understand that right now it’s hard to be positive,” he said in his opening remarks.

“The war in the Middle East has caused the biggest spike in petrol and diesel prices in history. Australia is not an active participant in this war.

“But all Australians are paying higher prices because of it.”

The address contained no new measures, instead reiterating announcements made in the previous days.

These included the National Fuel Security Plan adopted by the National Cabinet on Monday, a three-month fuel excise cut of 26.3 cents per litre and a slashing of a heavy vehicle road user charge for truck drivers.

He advised Australians to go on their Easter breaks but conserve fuel where possible and “do their bit” to get through the challenging times ahead.

“If you’re hitting the road, don’t take more fuel than you need – just fill up like you normally would. Think of others in your community, in the bush and in critical industries,” Albanese said.

“And over coming weeks, if you can switch to catching the train or bus or tram to work, do so.”

He acknowledged economic shocks would “be with us for months”.

Albanese noted that if the situation gets worse, “we can coordinate the next steps together,” but didn’t elaborate what that would contain.

SBS News has been told by a senior cabinet source that fuel restrictions are not imminent, instead urging voluntary measures, but the situation is highly volatile.

Minutes following the address, Opposition leader Angus Taylor was quick to label it “re-run” that lacked “more detail” or a “clear plan”.

“There’s a lack of confidence around Australia, there’s confusion around Australia about the state of the fuel system,” he told 7News.

Pressed about what else the government could do, Taylor demanded “daily updates on what the situation is”.

A rare address saved for times of crisis

The address stands in stark contrast with the last few times the nation was addressed, most recently by former prime minister Scott Morrison in March 2020 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February 2009, former prime minister Kevin Rudd used the method to deliver an apology to the Stolen Generations.

Former prime minister John Howard addressed the nation in 2003 to announce that Australia would be joining the war in Iraq.

Australia is currently at level two of a four-stage national fuel response plan, and the government has continued to assure the public supply levels remain steady, although demand has spiked prices.

Albanese is expected to further questions about Australia’s position and the possibility of a recession on Thursday, when he appears at the National Press Club.

Decades-Old Teen Murder Solved: DNA Evidence Links Ted Bundy in Shocking Cold Case Revelation

0

A teenage girl’s decades-old murder mystery in Utah has been solved, revealing her as one of the countless victims of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy.

Officials announced on Wednesday that DNA evidence has conclusively tied Bundy to the murder of 17-year-old Laura Ann Aime. She disappeared on October 31, 1974, after leaving a Halloween gathering to purchase cigarettes, as reported by KTVX.

Just days after her disappearance, hikers stumbled upon her body near an embankment off the road in American Fork Canyon.

“Laura wasn’t living with her family at that time,” Aime’s niece, Tara Stucki, shared with the news outlet last year. “She had a free-spirited nature and was often with friends.”

Ted Bundy victim Laura Ann Aime

Laura Ann Aime, aged 17, has now been confirmed as a victim of Ted Bundy, following her disappearance and subsequent death in Utah in 1974.

Investigators determined Aime had been raped, strangled and murdered, KTVX reported.

For several decades, authorities pointed to Bundy as the prime suspect in Aime’s death, noting he began studying law at the University of Utah just two months before her disappearance.

Bundy had allegedly “approached [Aime] multiple times before” and “kind of stalked her before taking her,” Stucki told KTVX.

However, Bundy reportedly failed to recall if Aime was among his victims while confessing to several homicides throughout Utah.

The mystery surrounding Aime’s death lay dormant for 51 years, until investigators with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office used new DNA technology to link Bundy to Aime’s killing.

“We bring this case to a closure and more importantly closure to the Aime family,” Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith said at a news conference Wednesday morning, according to FOX 13.

Investigators obtained a male DNA profile using bodily fluids found on Aime’s remains following recent testing, KTVX reported.

The genetic profile was reportedly input into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a national DNA database, which provided a match in Florida.

Following additional analysis, investigators were able to link the DNA profile to Bundy.

Aime is believed to be Bundy’s third victim in Utah.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has since shared the DNA profile with other departments in hopes of finding more of Bundy’s victims, with authorities reportedly adding they believe the development will provide a resolution to another cold case – though no additional details were provided.

Bundy has long been linked to the killings of several women in Florida, Utah, Colorado, Oregon and Washington from 1974 to 1978.

He previously confessed to a total of 28 murders, but investigators believe he could be responsible for hundreds of killings.

Bundy was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of two Florida college students in 1979, and received another death sentence in 1980 for the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl.

He was executed by Florida’s electric chair in 1989.

“I know that she would be really happy to know that [her case] has been closed,” Michelle Impala, Aime’s younger sister, said Wednesday, according to KTVX.

“And just to know that Ted Bundy is, like, gnashing his teeth in hell is really – I don’t know. I hate to think of people doing that, but with him and a few other people in the world, that’s what they deserve.”

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Bay Area Racetrack to Transform into Expansive Public Park Funded by Taxpayers

0

Residents of the Bay Area are expressing frustration over the decision to transform a historically significant racetrack into an expansive waterfront park, especially given the ongoing housing crisis and the project’s reliance on taxpayer funds.

The 161-acre site of Golden Gate Fields, located along the San Francisco Bay, has been slated for a $175 million acquisition by the nonprofit Trust for Public Land, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Having ceased thoroughbred racing operations in 2024 after nearly eight decades, the former racetrack’s redevelopment has been complicated by its location, which straddles the boundaries of Berkeley and Albany. The nonprofit organization played a key role in brokering an agreement between the landowner and these two municipalities.

The organization has committed to securing the necessary funding for the purchase, with plans to transfer ownership to the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) next year for ongoing maintenance, a move they have hailed as a successful collaboration.

Funding for the acquisition will also draw from California’s Prop 4, passed in 2024, which allocates $10 million in bonds for projects aimed at enhancing climate resilience, including the expansion of recreational opportunities in local parks and the refurbishment of state parks.

Several Bay Area residents are not thrilled and have taken to social media to slam the idea, saying the last thing they need is another recreational space.

“Here’s a better idea: replace this shuttered 160-acre racetrack with 50 acres of ultra-high-density development, and build a park on the remaining 110 acres,” one person wrote.

“This will meet Albany’s housing element 50 times over while helping fund the new park (and burying the highway).”

“So it looks like CA taxpayers will be shelling out the big bucks to ‘protect’ 160 acres of land on the border of Berkeley and Albany from any housing development,” a law professor at UC Davis wrote. “Wouldn’t a new waterfront park have more value if more people could live beside it?”

“We are addicted to ideology and luxury beliefs. There is no shortage of parks and recreational space,” a  third person continued. “We have a shortage of housing in the Bay Area, but we would rather do everything else than build homes.”

“This is a DISGRACE. Here we are in the middle of a massive housing shortage, our kids are leaving California in droves to find an affordable place to live, and we turn this prime housing site over to another park?” a fourth person wrote on Facebook, pointing out the proximity of numerous parks nearby. “WE DO NOT NEED MORE PARKS, WE NEED MORE HOMES!”

However, not everyone agrees. One resident threw their support behind it online, saying that turning the area into one “giant waterfront park is gonna be sick.”

Elizabeth Echols, EBRPD board member for Ward 1, said in a statement on the park’s website that the “opportunity to convert Golden Gate Fields to a fabulous shoreline park serving East Bay residents and the broader Bay Area community is a dream come true for the East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors.”

“If the acquisition is successful, 161 acres of beautiful shoreline will forever be preserved for parkland for all to enjoy.”

Echols added, “Not only that, restoring the land to a more natural state will go a long way to protecting sensitive shoreline habitat not only for wildlife but also as a means to protect coastal residential communities from the impacts of our changing climate.”

As part of the purchase option, the land must not contain any above-ground infrastructure when it is handed over, the outlet noted.

Guillermo Rodriguez, California state director for the trust, said that they were “still early in the process” and that they “will be engaging community members and stakeholders across” the region for support.

The California Post reached out to East Bay Regional Park District and the nonprofit for comment.

NASA’s Artemis II: First Crewed Lunar Mission in 50 Years Set to Revolutionize Space Exploration

0

At Cape Canaveral, Florida, the four astronauts assigned to the Artemis II mission have settled into the Orion capsule, poised to embark on humanity’s first lunar journey in over 50 years. Their mission is scheduled for an evening launch.

Stay tuned to ABC News for live coverage of the Artemis II launch.

On Wednesday morning, NASA’s launch team successfully filled the towering 32-story Space Launch System rocket with over 700,000 gallons of fuel. This crucial step prepares the mission for a potential liftoff during a two-hour window starting at 6:24 p.m. EDT at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The crew members, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen, will be on board for this historic flight. Their path will take them several thousand miles past the moon before making a quick turn back to Earth. This mission is not designed for lunar orbit or moonwalks; instead, it’s a swift round trip lasting under 10 days. NASA anticipates further lunar exploration but plans to conduct a few practice missions first.

Setting Artemis apart from the Apollo missions, which ran from 1968 to 1972, this mission’s crew includes a woman, a person of color, and a Canadian, marking a significant milestone in space exploration diversity.

Artemis II is the opening shot of NASA’s grand plans for a permanent moon base. The space program is aiming for a moon landing near the lunar south pole in 2028.

The Latest:

What is a countdown hold?

Holds or pauses are built into the countdown ahead of time to provide a buffer to the schedule.

NASA can extend these holds if a problem is detected. This gives the launch team time to investigate the issue and resume counting if it can be fixed in time. NASA can also call an unplanned hold if necessary.

The first planned was set at the 12-hour, 35-minute mark – before fueling – and lasted for two hours and 45 minutes.

The second planned hold occurs at the 40-minute mark and lasts 30 minutes. It’s during this hold that the launch director polls the team to determine whether everyone is “go” or to proceed.

A battery issue crops up

With 52 minutes remaining in the countdown, NASA’s Derrol Nail reported that one of two batteries in the abort system is not displaying the proper temperature.

The launch team is scrambling to determine whether a sensor is at fault or whether the battery itself is faulty. NASA cannot proceed past the six-minute mark unless confident in the batteries’ operation.

How Artemis II astronauts will return to Earth

Like with Apollo, the mission will end with a splashdown homecoming into the Pacific.

Navy recovery ships will be stationed off the coast of San Diego as Orion parachutes into the ocean.

How do Artemis II astronauts get medical care in space?

There’s a medical kit aboard Orion containing basic first-aid items, common medications like antibiotics, and medical devices such as a blood pressure monitor and thermometer.

Astronauts can also have private medical consultations with flight surgeons on the ground via video, similar to a telehealth visit on Earth.

Ahead of launch, the crew was in quarantine to avoid falling ill.

Artemis program started under President Donald Trump’s first term

“President Trump is excited about the next phase with the historic upcoming Artemis II launch,” said White House spokesperson Liz Huston. “This effort will strengthen American leadership in space, usher in scientific discoveries, and serve as the proving ground for missions to Mars.”

Trump is expected to monitor Wednesday’s launch from the White House.

Technical issue resolved

An unspecified issue with the rocket’s flight-termination system, which would send a self-destruct signal to the rocket in case it veered off course and was aiming for a populated area, has been resolved, NASA said.

Spectators cheered when NASA made its announcement.

NASA is probing a technical issue

There is an unspecified issue with the rocket’s flight-termination system, which would send a self-destruct signal to the rocket in case it veered off course and was aiming for a populated area.

“Pretty unique situation here,” NASA commentator Derrol Nail explained.

One of the launch controllers has been called into service to dash over to the adjoining Vehicle Assembly Building to grab space shuttle-era equipment, he said. He stressed that it is not a problem with the rocket itself.

“At this moment the range is no-go, but that is not stopping us from moving forward in the countdown,” Nail reported.

What’s on the menu to the moon?

Forget about puree squeezed from toothpaste-style tubes.

Modern space food is more appetizing and nutritious than the meals that flew to space in the 1960s – though options are still limited.

During the Artemis II mission, astronauts can feast on mac and cheese, tortillas and vegetable quiche. Drinks include coffee, green tea and lemonade, among other beverages.

Astronauts use water to rehydrate their meals and a food warmer to heat up their food. Menus are designed to minimize crumbs, which can pose a danger if they clog spacecraft equipment or get into astronauts’ eyes.

Fresh food isn’t an option since the Orion capsule lacks refrigeration.

NASA’s lunar road map after Artemis II

The space agency recently rejiggered its Artemis moon exploration program, modeling it after fast-paced Apollo, which launched moonshots in quick succession in the 1960s and 1970s.

1. Artemis II involves a lunar fly-around by four astronauts.

2. Artemis III focuses on launching a lunar lander into orbit around Earth in 2027 for docking practice by astronauts flying in an Orion capsule.

3. Artemis IV aims to land astronauts on the moon in 2028.

Last month NASA’s new administrator Jared Isaacman laid out a blueprint for a moon base that, along with lunar drones and rovers, is expected to cost $20 billion over the next seven years.

What happens if there’s a solar storm during the moon journey?

Space weather forecasters plan to closely track the sun as the Artemis II crew heads to the moon and back.

In recent months, huge eruptions on the sun’s surface have triggered solar storms that spawned colorful auroras in unexpected places on Earth.

Artemis II astronauts will wear personal dosimeters to monitor radiation levels. If there’s a sudden spike, astronauts can reconfigure the cabin into a shelter by putting barriers to shield themselves from incoming radiation.

Trump sends best wishes to Artemis II crew

President Donald Trump wished them well via social media ahead of the planned launch: “God bless our incredible Astronauts, God bless NASA and God bless the Greatest Nation ever to exist.”

Canadian Space Agency president praises Canadian Hansen

Speaking of Artemis II astronaut – and first-time space flier – Jeremy Hansen, Canadian Space Agency President Lisa Campbell told NASA on Wednesday, “We’re very proud. He’s so ready. He’s been waiting for this his whole life, preparing, training, and he’s a wonderful example of Canada.”

The Apollo generation, in their own words

Charlie Mars, 90, who worked on Apollo’s command and lunar modules: “Because it was the first time, there was an energy. There was a passion that probably is not exactly the same today and hasn’t been for a while.”

JoAnn Morgan, 85, who was the lone female engineer inside launch control during the Apollo 11 landing:

“It will be even greater when they actually have a woman who plants her boots on the moon.”

Charlie Duke, 90, Apollo 16 moonwalker: “If the first ones are successful and we start landing at the south pole, I think millions are going to be watching that. I know I will if I’m still here.”

How space toilets work

Everyone needs to go – even in space.

There were no bathrooms on the Apollo missions. Astronauts urinated into bags and diapers.

A primitive potty was aboard the U.S. space station, Skylab, in the 1970s. The International Space Station now features three bathrooms as the orbiting complex expanded.

The Orion capsule is equipped with a compact lunar loo that was tested on the space station several years ago.

Known as the universal waste management system, the titanium toilet uses air suction instead of water and gravity to remove waste, similar to earlier space commodes. It’s also designed to better accommodate female astronauts.

The system collects urine and solid waste separately – No. 1 is vented into space and No. 2 is stowed for the return trip.

8-year-old designer of ‘Rise’ toy on hand

Lucas Ye’s design for a zero gravity indicator was picked from more than 2,600 submissions to fly to the moon. It also won him a trip to watch the Artemis II launch from Kennedy Space Center.

The 8-year-old from California designed a plush toy called “Rise,” inspired by the iconic Earthrise” photo taken during Apollo 8.

Interviewed by NASA, he said he was, “Really, really, really, really, really, really, really surprised and very happy” to win and be here.

How Artemis II astronauts will stay fit in microgravity

To prevent bone and muscle loss in space, astronauts will keep in shape using a device that acts like a yo-yo.

They can do exercises such as rowing, squats and dead lifts.

Each astronaut will spend about a half hour a day exercising on the device, developed by the Canadian Space Agency.

Astronauts are in the capsule

The four Artemis astronauts have entered the Orion capsule and are in place for humanity’s first trip to the moon in 53 years.

After they arrived at the launch pad, they rode an elevator up to the capsule and signed their names to the so-called white room, where they stage for boarding.

They donned their helmets, made some final adjustments to the suits, and climbed into the capsule. If they take off as planned, they will remain in the capsule – with about as much room as a small camper van – for the next 10 days.

NASA’s liftoff lingo, defined

Watching a rocket launch can be confusing if you’re unfamiliar with the jargon, or specialized language, used by NASA.

Here’s a guide to some key terms:

4. LH2: liquid hydrogen

5. LOX: liquid oxygen

6. Go/no-go: Status check on whether to proceed.

7. Nominal: Everything is going as planned.

8. LAS: The launch abort system is the tower atop the Orion capsule designed to carry the crew to safety during an emergency.

9. Hold: A pause in the countdown clock.

10. Scrub: The launch attempt is canceled for the day. Reasons can include bad weather, technical problems or safety concerns.

Even moon launches are powered by pizza

NASA chief Jared Isaacman has had pizza delivered to the launch team in Cape Canaveral. It’s lunchtime for the team as the opening of the launch window at 6:24 p.m. EDT approaches.

What is the launch abort system on Orion?
It’s an escape system designed to ferry Artemis II astronauts to safety if there’s an emergency on the pad or during initial ascent.

A tower structure mounted on top of Orion can be activated to quickly rip the capsule and astronauts away from the SLS rocket and release it for a parachute splashdown in the ocean, according to Lockheed Martin.

Meet the Artemis II astronauts: Jeremy Hansen

The Canadian fighter pilot and physicist is making his space debut and serving as his country’s first emissary to the moon.

“Maybe I’m naive, but I don’t feel a lot of personal pressure.”

Hansen, 50, grew up on a farm near London, Ontario, before moving to Ingersoll and pursuing a flying career.

He realizes only now how much effort it took to send men to the moon during Apollo.

“When I walk out and I look at the moon now, it looks and feels a little bit farther than it used to be,” he said.

Dangers still loom – something he’s shared with his college-aged son and twin daughters. “The most likely outcome is that we will come back safe. There’s a chance we won’t, and you will be able to move through life even if that happens,” he assured them.

Moon rockets: Space Launch System vs. Saturn V

The SLS rocket stands 322 feet (98 meters), shorter than the Apollo program’s Saturn V rocket. But it’s but more powerful at liftoff thanks to a pair of strap-on boosters.

Atop the rocket is the Orion capsule carrying the Artemis II crew.

The solid rocket boosters are bigger versions of the rocket motors on the space shuttles that carried up most of the parts of the International Space Station, as well as the astronaut construction crews.

The SLS uses the same fuel – liquid hydrogen – as the shuttle did.

Hydrogen leaks repeatedly grounded the shuttles as well as the SLS during testing in 2022 and again earlier this year, bumping Artemis II into April.

Meet the Artemis II astronauts: Christina Koch

The last time Koch blasted into space, she was gone almost a year so she’s not sweating a quick trip to the moon and back.

The 47-year-old electrical engineer from Jacksonville, North Carolina, holds the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman – 328 days. She took part in the first all-female spacewalk during her lengthy stay at the space station in 2019.

Before she got called up by NASA, Koch spent a year at a South Pole research station. Between that and her space stint, she feels she’s “inoculated” most of her family and friends.

“So far, I haven’t gotten too many nerves from folks. Maybe my dog, but I’ve reassured her that it’s only 10 days. It’s not going to be as long as last time.”

Her and her husband’s rescue pooch is named Sadie Lou.

Meet the Artemis II astronauts: Victor Glover

As one of NASA’s few Black astronauts, Glover sees his presence on the mission as “a force for good.”

The 49-year-old Navy captain and former combat pilot from Pomona, California, makes it a habit to listen to Gil Scott-Heron’s “Whitey on the Moon” and Marvin Gaye’s “Make Me Wanna Holler” from the white-dominated Apollo era.

“I listen to those for perspective,” he said. “It captures what we did well, what we did poorly.”

The ability for him now to offer hope to others is “an amazing blessing and a privilege.”

He’s hyper-focused on running “our best race so that we can hand the baton off to the next leg” – a 2027 practice docking mission in orbit around Earth between an Orion crew capsule and one or two lunar landers.

Astronauts head to the launch pad

Wiseman, Glover, Koch and Hansen have left the Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building and are on their way to launch pad 39B.

Waving to family, colleagues and news photographers, the crew boarded the so-called astrovan for the 9-mile ride to the launch pad and their awaiting SLS rocket.

Wait what? What’s the deal with the cards?

Before their highly anticipated walkout, commander Reid Wiseman and his crew played a quick card game with NASA’s chief astronaut Scott Tingle. It’s a preflight tradition since the space shuttle era.

Losing is good: It means the astronaut has gotten rid of all bad luck before launching.

The four thanked the suit techs and posed for photos, keeping a safe distance from many of the bystanders to avoid germs. They then went down the elevator at the Neil Armstrong Operations & Checkout Building and walk out to a barrage of cameras and cheers.

House Speaker shares prayer for Artemis’ ‘courageous pioneers’

House Speaker Mike Johnson posted on the social media site X ahead of the planned Artemis II launch.

“Praying for the safety and success of the Artemis II crew and @NASA as they undertake a mission that will carry humanity farther into space than we have gone in over half a century. I had the privilege of hosting these courageous pioneers at the State of the Union earlier this year. Americans are watching proudly as our Golden Age reaches new heights!” Johnson wrote.

Meet the Artemis II astronauts: Reid Wiseman

Wiseman, 50, a retired Navy captain from Baltimore, was serving as NASA’s chief astronaut when asked three years ago to lead humanity’s first lunar trip since 1972.

His wife Carroll’s death from cancer in 2020 gave him pause.

His two teenage daughters, especially the older one, had “zero interest” in him launching again after a 2014 trip to the International Space Station.

“We talked about it and I said, ‘Look, of all the people on planet Earth right now, there are four people that are in a position to go fly around the moon,” he said. “I cannot say no to that opportunity.”

The next day, homemade moon cupcakes awaited him, along with his daughters’ support.

Who are Apollo and Artemis?

Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo in Greek mythology. They are the children of Zeus and Leto. Artemis has long been associated with the moon.

While the Artemis name builds on the Apollo program and pays homage to it, “there is no way we could be that same mission or ever hope to even be,” said NASA astronaut Christina Koch, part of the Artemis II crew.

The Apollo program was all about beating the Russians to the moon and planting the U.S. flag. NASA sent 24 astronauts to the moon between 1968 and 1972, including 12 moonwalkers. Now China is the competition.

NASA is striving for a long-term lunar presence under Artemis, with Mars to follow.

The astronauts are fitted out

The Artemis II astronauts are now in their orange Orion spacesuits that they will wear for launch and reentry. Testing these new suits is one of the main goals of the mission.

The four are expected to emerge for their trip to the pad sometime before 2 p.m.

NASA created bright orange custom spacesuits for launch and reentry. Astronauts will also use them in case of a depressurization or some other emergency.

They can survive up to six days in the suits, inserting a straw into the helmet to sip water or protein shakes and relying on undergarment bags and bladders as a built-in toilet.

Future Artemis crews to the lunar surface will wear white moonwalking suits designed by Axiom Space.

During the Apollo era, astronauts wore the same white bulky spacesuits for launch and return as well as for moonwalks because there wasn’t enough storage on board for different outfits.

An Apollo engineer reflects on moon return

“We should have done Artemis 50 years ago,” said John Tribe, a propulsion engineer during the Apollo era.

The moon rocket is fueled up
The launch team has loaded more than 700,000 gallons of fuel into the 32-story Space Launch System rocket, setting the stage for the Artemis II crew to board.

Rain is coming but it’s not a threat

The wind is picking up at Cape Canaveral, more clouds are appearing and rain is expected in about two hours. But there is no lightning threat, NASA says, and there’s still an 80% chance the weather will be good enough to launch.

What’s the difference between L-minus and T-minus?
L-minus tracks the overall time to liftoff, counting down the days, hours and minutes away before the planned blastoff. It doesn’t include built-in holds, or pauses – that’s T-minus time.

The T-minus countdown in the final 10 minutes is where nerves tense up and hearts start pounding. Automated software kicks off a series of highly choreographed milestones. During this period, the clock can be stopped if a problem is spotted and restarted if it’s fixed in time.

T-0 is the moment of liftoff – zero – when the boosters ignite and the rocket begins its journey.

How launch windows work

NASA has a narrow time frame each month to fly to the moon.

The Earth and moon must be aligned just so to achieve the proper trajectory for the mission. In any given month, there’s only about a week when Artemis II astronauts can lift off.

The Orion capsule needs to get a check of its life-support and other systems in near-Earth orbit. If that goes well, Orion will fire its main engine to hurtle toward the moon, taking advantage of the moon and Earth’s gravity to get there and back in a slingshot maneuver that requires little if any fuel.

Orion also needs sunlight for power and can’t be in darkness for more than 90 minutes at a time. Plus NASA wants to minimize heating during reentry at flight’s end.

The latest launch window runs through April 6. The next opportunity opens on April 30.

Hydrogen is on board

The hydrogen tank of the rocket’s core stage is 100% filled. NASA said no significant leaks have been observed so far in fueling. It was hydrogen leaks that prevented the rocket from flying in February.

Time to wake up and go to the moon

The alarm clocks just went off in Kennedy Space Center’s crew quarters.

That means it’s rise and shine for the three Americans and one Canadian who are about to become the first lunar visitors in more than 53 years.

They have a long day ahead of them, whether they launch or not.

After breakfast, they’ll start suiting up. NASA’s launch window opens at 6:24 p.m. and lasts a full two hours.

NASA controllers wear green for go

Launch director Charlie Blackwell-Thompson is wearing green as are many of the controllers alongside her in the firing room.

Green represents “go” for NASA, a color symbolizing good luck.

The team is monitoring the fueling of the 322-foot moon rocket, set to blast off Wednesday evening.

Moon mascot, unveiled

A plush toy named Rise will ride with the Artemis II astronauts around the moon, carrying the names of more than 5.6 million people.

Rise is what’s known as a zero gravity indicator, which gives the astronauts a visual cue of when they reach space.

The design was inspired by the iconic “Earthrise” photo during Apollo 8, showing the planet as a shadowed blue marble from space in 1968.

Rise was selected from more than 2,600 contest submissions. It was designed by Lucas Ye of California.

Commander Reid Wiseman and his crew tucked a small memory card into Rise before the toy was loaded into the Orion capsule. The card bears the names of all those who signed up with NASA to vicariously tag along on the nearly 10-day journey.

“Zipping that little pocket on the bottom of Rise was kind of the moment that put it all together for me,” Wiseman said. “We are going for all and by all. It’s time to fly.”

Rocket fueling is underway for NASA’s Artemis II moon launch

NASA is fueling the new rocket that will send four astronauts to the moon.

Launch teams have begun pumping more than 700,000 gallons (2.6 million liters) of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen into the Space Launch System rocket at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

It’s the latest milestone in the two-day countdown that kicked off on Monday when launch controllers reported to duty.

It will take at least four hours to fully load the rocket before astronauts climb aboard for humanity’s first flight to the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972.

The two-hour launch window opens at 6:24 p.m. EDT.

The Artemis II crew is historic for NASA’s moon missions

The Americans who blazed the trail to the moon more than half a century ago were white men chosen for their military test pilot experience.

The Artemis II crew includes a woman, a person of color and a Canadian, products of a more diversified astronaut corps.

A Tennessee woman is facing serious charges following an alleged attack on her grandfather’s wife, leaving the victim bleeding on the floor.

Woman allegedly beat grandfather

Background: The Dickson County Sheriff’s Office in Charlotte, Tenn. (Google Maps). Inset: Allanah Samples (Dickson County Sheriff’s Office).

Allanah Samples, 24, has been detained at the Dickson County Jail, accused of elder abuse and aggravated assault. The incident reportedly took place on March 23 in a residence near Tennessee City, Tennessee. Authorities were alerted to the scene following reports of an elderly woman found bleeding, as detailed in an affidavit referenced by local news source, the Dickson Post.

The victim’s husband, who is Samples’ grandfather, informed police that his granddaughter was responsible for the assault, using a bat as the weapon. The affidavit disclosed that Samples expressed repeated apologies when deputies from the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office arrived. She claimed that her “mommy” had initially threatened her with the bat, though she admitted she was not struck during the altercation.

Police said the woman was married to Samples’ grandfather, who told police it was his granddaughter who beat his wife with a bat.

According to the affidavit, Samples apologized profusely when deputies from the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the home. Police said Samples told them that her “mommy” came after her with the bat first. When asked if she had been hit, Samples said she had not.

Deputies found the older woman on the floor suffering from a head injury. She allegedly told the deputies that it was Samples who attacked her, hitting her with the bat in the head and knees. The bat was located at the home. Samples allegedly admitted to the deputies that she attacked the older woman.

The older woman’s condition was not made public. A reason or motive for the alleged attack was not immediately clear.

Samples was charged with aggravated domestic assault and abuse of an elderly person resulting in serious bodily injury. She was booked into the Dickson County Jail, where she is still in custody. Her bond information was not available.

Samples is scheduled to appear in court on May 25.

MEMORISE: Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. – Psalm 16:4 (KJV)

READ: Exodus 20:1-5 (KJV)

1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Samuel 4-7

Open Heaven 2 April 2026 MESSAGE

Sometime in 1980, there was a woman in RCCG who was trusting God for the fruit of the womb. Although we all prayed for the woman as a church, my wife and I took it upon ourselves to pray for her regularly on our family altar. Shortly after, she informed us that she was pregnant. On hearing the good news, we were really happy for her. We were dancing and singing praises to God on her behalf when she told us, “Somebody advised me to look elsewhere for a solution to my childlessness.” She continued, “The people I went to for a solution also used the Bible. However, they also performed some traditional rituals and asked me to participate in certain rituals as well. Look at the result now; I am pregnant.” This happened over four decades ago, yet the last time I heard of her, she was still pregnant.

There was another woman who also desperately wanted a child. She got tired of waiting on God, so she sought fetish means to find a solution to her problem. Shortly after, she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. After she had her baby, she told those who were still waiting on the Lord, “You better take action and get a solution to your problem like I did, instead of wasting your time praying.” When the woman’s son was about six years old, he went into her room one day, stripped himself naked, and said, “Let’s have sex.” The mother was shocked and asked him, “What did you say?” The boy responded, “I said I want to have sex with you.” The perplexed mother then took him to a deliverance minister. During the deliverance session, the boy said, “Don’t waste your time; I am not possessed. I am a demon incarnate.”

Beloved, do not seek any kind of help outside God. Those who seek other gods and alternatives to God will eventually end up in sorrow. Today’s memory verse says that the sorrow of those who seek after other gods shall be multiplied. Those who seek help apart from God always pay dearly for it because the devil has nothing free to give. I implore you today to continue to tarry in God’s presence. Put your complete trust in Him because His help is on the way, and He will never disappoint you (Hebrews 10:35-38). I pray that the Lord will continue to uphold you and strengthen your faith in Him, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven 2 April 2026 PRAYER POINT

Father, please help me to wait patiently on You for Your help at all times.

Open Heaven 2 April 2026 HYMN 21 – My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less

1 My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

2 When darkness seems to veils His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

3 His oath, His covenant, and blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

NASA Gears Up for Historic Return to the Moon After 50 Years

0

The stage is set for NASA’s monumental mission to send humans back to the moon, with the rocket fueled and astronauts suited for launch.

Excited spectators have gathered at Florida’s Space View Park, eagerly awaiting the 9:24 AM AEDT liftoff of the Artemis II mission.

In the early hours today, NASA commenced fueling the moon rocket, a crucial step that raised tensions as hydrogen fuel began to flow into the system in preparation for the scheduled launch.

Previously, this process had been fraught with issues, as dangerous hydrogen leaks during a countdown test earlier this year led to significant delays.

Fortunately, this time around, fueling concluded smoothly on Wednesday without any major leaks, paving the way for the highly anticipated launch.

The launch team loaded more than 2.6 million litres of fuel into the 32-story Space Launch System rocket on the pad, setting the stage for the Artemis II crew to board.

“It is time to fly,” commander Reid Wiseman said on the eve of launch via X.

Three Americans and one Canadian will fly around the moon without stopping or even orbiting – then head straight back for a Pacific splashdown.

They will set a new distance record for the farthest humans have travelled from Earth as they zoom some 6,400 kilometres beyond the moon and then hang a U-turn.

Astronauts last flew to the moon during Apollo 17 in 1972.

Artemis II is the opening shot of NASA’s grand plans for a permanent moon base. The space program is aiming for a moon landing near the lunar south pole in 2028.

“The next era of exploration begins,” NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman posted on X.

Best wishes already have started to pour in, including from King Charles III to Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

Hansen will become the first non-US citizen to launch to the moon. The crew also includes Christina Koch and Victor Glover, the first woman and first Black astronaut, respectively, destined for the moon.

“In this historic moment, you stand as a bridge between nations and generations,” the King wrote in a letter to Hansen, “and I commend you for your courage, discipline and vision that have brought you to this threshold”.

West Wilson Engages in Non-Exclusive Relationships, Spotted with Another Woman Amidst Amanda Speculations

West Wilson and Amanda Batula, known for their appearances on “Summer House,” appear to be keeping their relationship status open. Despite a joint statement released on Tuesday that hinted at a budding romance sparked from years of camaraderie, recent reports paint a different picture of Wilson’s romantic pursuits.

REPORT: Summer House's West Wilson is Allegedly Seeing "Multiple Women" & is Not Exclusive With Amanda Batula, Recent Pic of Him With Another Woman is Revealed

Credit: Noam Galai/BRAVO

As of March 31, the Instagram account Deuxmoi referenced a report from March 18, which described Wilson’s activities during a St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Chicago. According to the article, Wilson was spotted at Recess, where he was seen holding hands with a brunette woman throughout the event.

Insiders claimed that when approached by other women, Wilson’s behavior suggested he was taken, as he seemed to use his hand-holding as a signal of his disinterest in further advances. This narrative challenges the notion of exclusivity between Wilson and Batula, suggesting that Wilson’s affections may be spread across multiple romantic engagements.

On March 31, Deuxmoi on Instagram mentioned a March 18 article in which they noted that West had celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at Recess in Chicago, where he was “holding hands with [a] brunette girl the whole time.”

“Random girls were going up to him and he seemed to be holding her hand to show he was taken and not interested,” their source explained.

But according to the outlet, that was only one of the women West had been seen with in recent weeks.

“West has been actively seeing multiple women, including one in New York (previously spotted leaving a bar with him that was posted in a January Sunday Spotted) and another in Chicago (he allegedly saw during St. Patrick’s Day weekend) who tried to call things off with West, only for him to pull her back in,” they stated.

Additionally, multiple sources have confirmed to Deuxmoi that West had been caught at the apartment of former flame Ciara Miller, 30, the now-ex-bestie of Amanda.

“They have allegedly ‘hooked up’ as recently as the past couple of weeks,” the outlet alleged. “Some even [suggest] this love triangle dates back to December 2025.”

Deuxmoi then shared an insider report about a snowy Sunday in New York City, when West was spotted with a brunette at Corner Bistro.

“I already heard of two distant mutuals who are also actively hooking up with West,” another source claimed.

Meanwhile, on its Instagram Story, Deuxmoi shared even more West “tea,” with an insider suggesting he’d been “exclusive” with Meija Moreno, whom he mentioned as the creator of his hair tie on Watch What Happens Live in March.

“He was ‘exclusive’ with Meija – the friend he shouted out on WWHL. They were together for a year and she found out a few days ago that he was with Amanda,” the source stated.

Summer House West Wilson Allegedly Dating Meija Amid Amanda Batula Romance

Another post on Deuxmoi’s Instagram Story seemed to share more details about West and Meija’s relationship, although they didn’t call her out by name.

“His NYC girl … has been seeing him for almost [two] years. Super connected to his inner circle outside of the show, has met his parents, basically openly dating her. I have on good authority she feels really blindsided given they were still very much together as of just [two] weeks ago,” they claimed.

Summer House West Wilson Dating Multiple Women Amid Amanda Batula Romance

Steph With the Deets also mentioned Meija on her Instagram page, sharing photos of the woman wearing a tie similar to the one West had on during his WWHL appearance.

Meija Moreno With Hair Tie Amid West Wilson Rumors

Meija Moreno is rumored to have been seeing West as well.

According to Steph, West had been “liking” Meija’s Instagram posts since November 2025 and continued to do so through March. At that point, as rumors heated up in regard to him and Amanda, Meija posted a telling message about men, which read, “Fighting against all men [with] small hands, no moral compass, and loser tendencies.”

A short time later, Ciara “liked” the post.

Summer House West Wilson Reportedly Dating Meija Moreno

Meija also took to her Instagram Story amid West and Amanda’s romance reveal, where she wrote a message, which asked, “I’m so sorry is ‘lack of loyalty’ the next humanitarian crisis?”

According to another Deuxmoi insider, West may have been seen fighting with Meija at 82 Stanton. As a source alleged, he and a brunette woman were seen arguing at the venue, and later, the unnamed person and Ciara began following one another.

Summer House season 10 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.

Report: Lindsey Buckingham Targeted in Los Angeles Assault Involving Unknown Substance

0

If you’re a long-time fan of classic rock, you might recall the iconic days of Fleetwood Mac in their prime lineup: John and Christine McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, and the talented guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. Together, they’ve created timeless music, with their 1977 album “Rumours” continuing to be one of the top-selling rock albums ever.

Like many of us, the members of Fleetwood Mac have aged, yet they still capture public attention, though not always for the right reasons. Recently, in Los Angeles, Lindsey Buckingham found himself in an unsettling situation when a woman assaulted him by hurling an unknown substance.

Fortunately, it seems Mr. Buckingham was able to walk away from the incident unscathed.

Legendary rock guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, best known for his longtime tenure in Fleetwood Mac, was attacked in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Multiple law enforcement sources said the 76-year-old was set upon by a woman while arriving for an appointment in Santa Monica.

She hurled an unidentified substance at Buckingham when he entered the building and then fled the scene, according to NBC 4 Los Angeles.

The woman has been described as a stalking suspect, and law enforcement insiders say Buckingham was aware of her from prior incidents.

Buckingham is said not to have been injured in this week’s attack, and an arrest is expected to be made before long, with a suspect identified and both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Santa Monica Police Department on the case.

Good news: Mr. Buckingham would seem to have escaped unharmed.
